joining us, leslie. what is the need like this holiday season? >> well unfortunately we've seen a record level of need for food assistance. and not because so many of our neighbors are really feeling the pinch right now between the high cost of living here, price increases on things like food, and many of the government support people received during the pandemic are long gone now. >> reporter: in terms of this year, this holiday season is really important because that's where most of the fundraising happens for second harvest, right? the food banks around the bay area? >> that's right, we received the vast majority of our funding for the entire year during the holidays. what most people don't realize is only 10% of our funding comes from the government. two-thirds of it comes from individuals. so any donations, large or small, can have a huge impact. every dollar donated to us, we can provide enough food for two meals. >> reporter: that's significant. so you've got the person who says oh, i don't have v
