leslie brinkley live with the story. leslie? >> reporter: i can tell you we're about a half block away from old oakland and a farmer's market across the street. new creameries opened up and this is the building where elderly chinese immigrants live. they say they are afraid and very upset. cooking in the kitchen. the only common kitchen shared by 34 residents here. also in the kitchen, cockroaches. in the hall, wires. holes in the ceiling. last year, new owners took over the three-story single occupancy building. there are now only 2.5 baths open. others demolished in february with the common kitchen and storage space. they did not want to be identified. >> to go to the bathroom to wait in line. >> yes, the kitchen too. >> they want us to remodel the whole building and rent us to the people that have more money to rent. >> reporter: tenants pay around $400 rent and the conditions prompted some to move out. the representative said they've done a lot of good here installing fire alarms and sprinklers. he says they intended to remo

leslie brinkley is live with the latest. >> reporter: neighbors say they've complained to police about the art gallery parties on 15th street. meanwhile, one city council member told me the victims are beloved, talent young men. >> bad things happen to good people, and my friends are good people. >> friends of the two victims, 20-year-old and a 22-year-old, were at the prime development gallery saturday night, celebrating a friend's birthday. at the peak police say a crowd of 300 people spilled into the street just before 1:00 a.m. a fight inside escalated into a gun battle outside. a witness posted a video to social media. you can hear she shots going. >> oh, my god. >> partygoers ran for cover. the two men died at the scene. a third wounded man ran two blocks and was rushed to the hospital. >> it's more than broken glass. it's a lot of broken hearts and broken dreams and at lot of pain. >> she says city city has been pressuring the galleries to provide security when throwing these parties. but nearby business owners say there's an air of lawlessness here every weekend, with out of co

leslie brinkley is live in emeryville with more on what happened. leslie? >> reporter: that is right, dan. the man was riding alone, driving alone on interstate 880 and exiting by the powell street off-ramp when he got one shot, one bullet to his head. he's barely survived. this is adjacent to a very busy shopping center and an extremely busy freeway corridor here. and the shooter or shooters are still at large. 2:26 in the morning on witnesses and call 911 saying a man at the off-ramp was shot while driving his silver nissan altima. the man, a resident of oakland, was struck in the head. chp recovered evidence from the scene and interviewed those who saw the shooting. there have been 36 such shootings along east bay freeways since last november. chp said the vast majority are gang related where the victims had been specifically targeted but that doesn't give much peace of mind to other drivers. >> i feel like everybody has the right to feel safe while driving. again, that could be anybody. could be your mom, your grandmother or your sister. >> driving on t

reporting live in downtown san francisco, sutter at market, i'm leslie brinkley, abc 7 news. >> thank you very much. >>> now to our other top stories. two little girls killed in a terrible accident. rescue crews today search for them in vain along the russian river. the children were in a truck that crashed into the water. this accident happened in jenner in northern sonoma county. wayne freedman is live in jenner for us tonight with the story. wayne? >> reporter: well this is jenner over my shoulder, along with highway 116. if you look on the side of the road where this happened, there are no skid marks but this road is very narrow and two lanes and notorious for accidents in this spot. there is no guard rail. just a narrow shoulder. and this is the spot where the truck hit the road and rolled into the river. it is the accident that has taken from jenner not only the two favorite little girls, but also the only two children in town. the girls in this picture, friends of the family told us. >> they were swinging on the swing yesterday. >> all we've heard -- we don't really know but oa
