abc7 leslie brinkley is live at the station to describe the impact. >> reporter: i can tell you there are fire stations just parked here inside station 94. just parked. the staon closed yesterday. they're essentially out of service. it's going to have a big impact, as you said, on thentire east contraosta fire protection district. the district is out of money and they have to liv within their budget. there are still three stations open in oakley, brtwood and discovery bay, but there will n longer be, from my understanding, backup crews for fires or for emergency medic calls. i just think its crazy how it's going to shut down the fire department one week before the busiest time of the year for them. firetrucks are in and out all day ng. >> if a fire goes on here, how long will it take for brently or oakwood to get here if there's a re right there? >> reporter: the answer is response times are expected to go way up districtwide. i talked with theattalion chief who said now without a funding stream and three failed ballot measures the don't have the funding to sustain four staffed fire s

in san francisco, leslie brinkley, abc 7 news. >> a lawyer is taking matters into her own hands to get justice for the families who lost loved ones in oakland's ghost ship fire. she's searching through the charred rubble looking for new evidence to help their case in the lawsuit. tons of debris from last december's inferno was transported to a lot, and a second location as well, a hangar at oakland international. it has sat virtually untouched ever since. yesterday, the attorney and her crew of experts began sifting through the debris for the first time. her team will also search the airport hangar. >> we're looking for any electrical wiring. we're looking for cameras that may have some photos on them. >> alexander is the lead attorney representing the families of 31 of the 36 people who died in the fire. she says the search will probably last the rest of the week. >> san francisco's planning commission will consider a proposal today by former oakland mayor jean kwan and her husband to open a medcon marijuana dispensary. kwan and her husband want to open the dispensary, traditional chi

abc7 news reporter leslie brinkley is live in brentwood with more on this story tonight. leslie?> reporter: hey, good evening, eric. this station along with one in oakle, one in discovery bay will remain open. but closing the station out in knightson, that is going to dramaly increase response times for 115,000 people. these engines are parked in station 94 in knightson. there's no one to drive them. the station closed july 1st. it's a funding problem and a personnel problem. the east contra costa fire protection district says they pay firefighters 30% less than other districts. so many leave to go elsewhere. so to balance their budget, they're paring from four stations to just three stations to cover 250 square miles of dry grass, farms, subdivisions, and rural roads. >> your farthest companies are now traveling even farther. so the fire's going to get bigger, or people unfortunately if they're injured are going to have to wait longer. >> between now and october, we are transitioning to a sound three-station organization that is not adequately able to protect all of our citizens

abc 7 news reporter leslie brinkley talked with that mom who is speaking for the first time since the friday crash. >> he blindsided me. i never saw anything. i didn't hear tires screeching, nothing. >> reporter: friendship night on highway 4 in concord aida reyes says she had just left a drive-in movie with her sons. chp says 35-year-old lemuel wilson drove across the grassy median and hit the reyes family vehicle throwing the two young boys from the car. witnesses saw wilson running from the scene. he was treated at highland hospital and fatss multiwill charges including vehicular homicide. the alameda sheriff's department to us that wilson posted $10,000 the day before the crash on charges related to terrorist threats any pleasanton. court records show he was also charged in the past with at least two duis. >> a lot speaks volumes of this man fleeing from an accident and knowing that two children laid on the ground he's saved only himself. >> we don't want him released on bail. >> we're asking for no bail. >> no bail. >> no bail. >> he killed my children and they're asking for bail

abc7 reporter leslie brinkley is life with the story. >> reporter: just around the corner from me, ericvery five minutes or so you hear this crackling sound as glass comes off the side of this office building. we're barricade out here. they've got us blocked off. people are wanting to get back to their cars so they can drive home or get away. they can't. we've seen a few other folks appear to be evacuated. from the ninth story up to the 15th story in this office tower at 180 grand avenue, glass panels spontaneously popped all afternoon, raining glass onto the sidewalk and cars below on 23rd street. exposing insulation and wiring. the building is diagonally across from the apartment construction site that roared into an inferno early friday. as many evacuated residents were allowed back into their nearby units last night. today, even more people appear to be forced out because of the shattering glass. >>

abc7 leslie brinkley is live at the station to describe the impact. >> reporter: i can tell you theretions just parked here inside station 94. just parked. the station closed yesterday. they're essentially out of service. it's going to have a big impact, as you said, on the entire east contra costa fire protection district. the district is out of money and they have to liv within their budget. there are still three stations open in oakley, brentwood and discovery bay, but there will no longer be, from my understanding, backup crews for fires or for emergency medical calls. >> i just think its crazy how it's going to shut down the fire department one week before the busiest time of the year for them. firetrucks are in and out all day long. >> if a fire goes on here, how long will it take for brently or oakwood to get here if there's a fire right there? >> reporter: the answer is, response times are expected to go way up districtwide. i talked with the battalion chief who said now without a funding stream and three failed ballot measures they don't have

in san francisco, i'm leslie brinkley, abc 7 news. >>> on to developing news in san mateo where police are still looking for a shooter. reports of shots fired came in around 7:30 on delaware street. a 36-year-old man was hit. he is expected to survive. aby 7 news was there and you can see the heavy police presence. police searched the area for the suspect and didn't find anyone. investigators believe he shot the man and left with a getaway drive in a red car. >> skeletal remains found in moraga have been identified. they were found in march by a hiker. an autopsy report did not determine a cause of death, but it did determine there was no foul play. through dna testing, the remains were identified as richen allen saimons. he was reported missing in august of 1998. >> we are now learning that president trump and russian president vladimir putin had a previously undisclosed conversation at the g-20 summit. the two spoke briefly during a dinner, but the political scientist who first recorded the conversation said the presidents spoke for about an hour through russia's translator. donald t
