reporting live in orinda i'm leslie brinkley, abc seven news. >> leslie thank you. and the coastal areas also saw some impacts from today's storm. we sent abc seven news reporter anser hassan to check out conditions. he is live for us from alameda tonight. hi. >> answer. i'm a good evening right now. the rain has stopped. still a bit of wind, but nothing like we saw two hours ago when we had massive downpours. i spoke with east bay regional park district. they're out patrolling areas making sure there are no downed trees behind me. you can see this tree has been coned off. you can see branches came down. i don't think that happened today, but one reason the city and the park district are keeping an eye on crown beach where we're at is because in december, high tides and the storm eroded huge portions of alameda's beach, which stretches about two and a half miles. the park district says about 1200 tons of rocks were placed along the shoreline to stabilize the slope and prevent more land from being washed away. we spoke to some residents. they've noticed the work. the

i'm leslie brinkley, abc seven news. >> tariffs of 25% that were supposed to start at midnight against canada and mexico are on pause for now. late today, canada agreed to increase security at its border to stem the flow of fentanyl into the u.s. hours earlier, mexico agreed to send 10,000 national guard troops to the border to clamp down on fentanyl trafficking. the u.s, in turn, agreed to try to stem the flow of high powered weapons into mexico. the pause in tariffs is only for 30 days. the agreements come as the stock market plunged on fears of an escalating trade war. the back and forth over president trump's tariffs rattled trading today on wall street. the dow initially plunged nearly 600 points at the opening bell, but after a deal was made to pause some tariffs, the dow recovered and closed down 122 points at 44,421. the nasdaq dropped 235 points. the s&p 500 lost 45 points. >> as you know, another of president trump's key issues during the first 100 days of his second term is immigration. it has some alameda residents calling for the city to reaffirm its stance as a sanctuary
