the thing with get out was it was very much in the style of ira levin who wrote stepford wives, it wast the way in which liberal america was still deeply racist. this is slightly more broad and slightly harder to pin down, but i like that about it. it's essentially a family who go for a holiday up by santa cruz, and outside their house turns up another family of doppelgangers. and in the title is a pun. the film is called ‘us‘, but ‘us' is us. and there is a line that rings through it in which somebody says, "we're americans." and you can watch the film and think, ok, maybe it's about the way in which everyone has a shadow side, you know, kind of like a jekyll and hyde thing, or maybe you can see it as a parable about the way that affluent societies have a kind of parasitic relationship with the hidden underclass. or you can just see it as a sort of jack finney bodysnatchers—style horror tale that is really, really well done. and the clever thing about it is, remember all the stuff at the golden globes about get out being a comedy? i think somebody said, "well, what should it be?" and
