levinson stated, fares are an important part of our revenue. and our fares are scheduled to go up each year in alignment with our expenses in order to avoid doing a major increase every couple of years. we are trying to do is to think through how do we get to the bottom line of what we need in order to run the service while adjusting all of our different fare categories in order to maximize the equity of the outcomes. so we're looking at the data of exactly who uses which fare categories and trying to minimize increases for people with the least amount of means and to make adjustments where people can most afford it and direct that revenue towards our equity surface. so we are going to be presenting our board next week with a variety of different options in order to help them help us think through those trade-offs. we are also working with community-based organizations to get their input on what are the mechanisms that will have the least negative impact on the most vulnerable riders. >> one more question. i'm hearing both that it's a, you know

. >> i'm mark levinson, i'm an independent historian here in washington. i'm going say i'm skeptical of this distinction that you're drawing during the new deal between the free enterprisers and new dealists. i wrote a book that i've just recently published in the 2nd edition called "grade a and p" which is about the chain store wars. there's the complaint that big business was killing off small business, that mom and pop were being driven out of business by these capitalist giants. the question is what should the new deal, what should the federal government do about this. and the reality is that there was no partisan split here at all. you had many, many people on the republican side, your punitive free enterprise folks who thought very much that the government should crack down on big business, but free enterprise meant protecting mom and pop, and meant acting against these large, what we'll refer to as foreign companies, foreign being based in new york or chicago killing off free enterprise. and meanwhile you had democrats who are on both sides of this
