phil, what is cory lewandowski saying about testifying before the judiciary committee? >> for months house democrats have tried and mostly failed to get some of president trump's top advisers closest officials in his orbit to come to capitol hill and testify. testify publicly or behind closed doors. that is about to change. cory lewandowski one of the campaign manager for president trump in 2016, one of the closest outside advisers still today saying in a fox news radio interview he would be happy to come and testify in front of the committee. that follows the committee's decision to subpoena cory lewandowski to bring him to capitol hill for a public hearing on september 17th. now in the fox interview he said he would be willing to come up and testify and that he believed he needed to -- he would defend president trump and he needed to show that the investigation was a witch hunt. to give you a sense of how he plans on approaching that potential testimony. one of the key issues here is that cory lewandowski was involved in the central issues that the judiciary committee

the president followed up with lewandowski. lewandowski turned to rick dearborn who was then a former -- who was then a white house official, then a former chief of staff to jeff sessions. why don't you go to jeff sessions and try to set up this meeting. he delivered a message. it was typed out delivering the president's words. dearborn apparently did not set up this meeting but the same committee, house judiciary committee wants to hear from rick dear born. we'll see if cory lewandowski decides to talk about those episodes because in the past, as i said earlier, he has not wanted to do them. >> as you point out, unlike lewandowski, dearborn worked in the white house so the white house may have a better case for executive privilege on that front. thank you very much, manu, for that report. >>> let's bring in caitlyn collins. she's with the president in new jersey. any white house reaction so far to the prospect of cory lewandowski testifying? >> reporter: well, wolf, it seems to be a sign the white house thinks that strategy we

the president's former campaign manager corey lewandowski has been subpoenaed.use judiciary committee wants him to testify next month about the president's efforts to, quote, obstruct the russia investigation. by nbc's count, this is the seventh subpoena this year by the house judiciary committee. i want to bring in ken delaney of nbc news national intelligence and security reporter. ken, first of all, what's this about and perhaps more importantly, will cory lewandowski even show up? >> there are strong signals that he may resist. he went on twitter and called this a sad and pathetic attempt harassment and his lawyers expressing skepticism about this subpoena. but it will be up to the courts to determine whether they will be forced to testify. that's something that's being litigated right now. as to what this is about, it's essentially about trump asking lewandowski to help squash robert mueller's russia investigation. and particularly this is what jerry nadler said it was about, he said these witnesses were involved in trump's extensive efforts to obstruct the
