cnn's leyla santiago joins us now from miami gardens, florida. i'm curious how the franchise is responding to these allegations this morning. >> reporter: well, you know, they're not acknowledging much of what flores is alleging in this lawsuit. in other words, they're saying they are doing their best to improve diversity in the league, but let's talk about what flores has just said on cnn. he says in this lawsuit that the league has a problem with racial discrimination, even compares it to a plantation. take a note of the timing. he filed this lawsuit on the first day of black history month here. a lot of times lawsuits start off with legal framework, legal talk. this one started out with the words from a text message from the patriots bill belichick. let's go ahead and look over that text message that really does have a lot of the framework for what this lawsuit stands on. he says that belichick texted him to say congratulations, he hears that he landed the job, and flores replies did you hear something i didn't hear? belichick responds, well,

>> leyla santiago, thank you. and joining us now to discuss cnn legal analyst joey jackson and a sports journalist and host of the podcast naked with kerry champion. he says the nfl is racially segregated. says it's run like a plantation. he talks about sham interviews. flores' lawyers think their case is a slam dunk, their words. how difficult will it be to prove or win this? >> yeah, ana, good to be with you. so the reality is that when you file a complaint, that complaint is full of allegations and then you go to a court of law where those allegations really need to be established and remember that since this is a civil case, the standard of proof is not beyond a reasonable doubt, guilty as in criminal law, it's called a preponderance of the evidence. is it more likely than not, is it probable? this complaint is -- when you mentioned explosive to say the least, ana this is really larger than brian flores. it speaks to the issue of the lack of really head coaches of the 32 teams pointing out only one team has th

leyla santiago with more on this developing story. what can you tell us?> reporter: you know, brianna, when brian flores was in miami, he was known as a coach who showed a lot of promise. in this lawsuit, he acknowledges he could be putting his career on the line, something he thinks is worth it because he says the nfl has a problem with racial discrimination and it's time to take it to court. he is suing three teams alleged racial discrimination. lawyers accuse the league of being racial live segregated and like a plantation. filed on the first day of black history month, the suit begins by saying 32 owners, none of whom are black, profit substantially from the labor of nfl players, 70% of whom are black. flores claims he was discriminated against by the league and some of its owners and managers while applying for the job of head coach of the new york giants. bill belichick three days before he was scheduled to interview with the new york franchise. the complaint states on january 24th, belichick wrote, sounds like you have landed. congrats. flores respo
