we have lgbt. we have immigrants, people of color, youth, and a high proportion of seniors in the city as well. we heard that people want to see more jobs, want to see access to more jobs for our residents. we want to see more preventive instead of just reactive. we want to see after-school programs versus the police picking them up because they are out on the street, which i think our chief agrees with. i actually ran for the board of education in san francisco and got to serve a term on our school board. what really surprised me was how much i enjoyed it. i loved it. i love meeting with families, meeting with youth, meeting with teachers, visiting schools, and getting a deeper understanding of what it means to make our system work better. the one thing i really enjoyed was i got to run within a district instead of citywide, was that i really got to know voters and residents. i actually enjoy campaigning more because i had time to knock on doors and the voters individually. i'd love it. i actually

it is critical that lgbt couples are included in the house and senate versions of comprehensive immigration reform. is a quality-based legislation is critical for the tens of thousands of gay or lesbian couples living in exile, illegally, in fear, in detention, or perhaps separated from loved ones. california makes up a large percentage of bi-national couples, and with special notes -- social networking, it has probably tripled. the largest percentage is from the bay area. i would be remiss -- i believe it would be remiss of san francisco for this iconic city to fail in its local by not placing this as a critical element regarding any advocacy modifying legislation. the city of santos, has its work cut out for it. it must stand for all its residents. well certainly is committed to strong support immigration reform, it is apparent there will impose the inclusion of -- rather than excluding no one. from the lgbt perspective, this is going to be tough, and i submit to the city that they consider the following list of ideas which i have cryptically penned for this testimony. i have noticed that

there was a panel on lgbt rights and the president attended. it seems the tide is changing within our community. these social issues that they typically used to divide us, are they a thing of the past? are they heading that way? in my naive? >> i don't think you are naive. i think the way events are working, the right does not seem to want to focus on those issues so much. in 2010, it was all about the economy and all about running against obama care and pushing the fact that the economy was in the toilet. once a lot of them got in, abortion came roaring back and other initiatives on gay issues. the right is focused on the economy and downplaying social issues, the fact that there was this lgbt conference within the naacp, says to me that disparate communities of the democratic umbrella are recognizing the fact that if they are going to advance the cause they believe in, they must work together. african-americans and the gay community must work together. african-americans and latinos have to work together if they want to ensure that the gains t

component was unaffordable senior housing component of approximately 110 units welcoming to the senior lgbt households to be developed by mercy housing. under the original approval, 15% of the market rate units were to be constructed as on-site, below market units. the project before the commission today proposes to modify conditions 20, 21, and 29 of the planning commission motion to allow a hybrid exclusionary -- inclusionary portion. the modification would allow the provision of approximately 32 units and a maximum of approximately 50 units of the requirement as on-site units. if less than 15% are provided, payment by the developer of the market rate component of the affordable housing feet of up to approximately dollars and 6.3 million to comply with the planning code sections 4 and 5. this change from the 50 units included in the original authorization has been necessitated by the mayor's office of housing's inability to immediately fund the senior housing component of the project that the moh committed to in the in original entitlement process. this hybrid proposal, the mayor's office
