she was so kind to me that i loved librarians. when they ask me to do something, it is hard for me to say no. and that is why i flew in the dark at night from atlanta to come out here. [laughter]. but it is because of that generosity of the national public library. so i went there to get my books and i would bring them home and read all 3. then the next week i would take them back to the library. i would read often. when you read better, you read success. i credit the national public library with my successes as a young reader and a young writer. my grandfather had 2 books on his shelf. one was king james version of the bible, the other was bull finch's mythology. it was that thick and on the mantle. i can see it as clearly as i am looking at them now. keu remember looking at the pictures and beginning to pick through some of the stories. and i learned to love those stories and if you read my books as a collection, and some people have, you will see that those 2 books inform most of my writings in subtle ways, not overt, in subtle

we have the city librarian and a director of inter-agency planning.se, we have staff that is much more knowledgeable than i am. i will figure out how to do this. as we all know, summer school, summer needs, summer services are always great. particularly for this summer school, we are looking at public schools and in much earlier than before, perhaps a week or two earlier. the last day will be may 27. school will start again august 15. as a response to that, the city has gotten together and put together -- and one thing i want to call your attention to is on march 19, the san francisco unified school district along with dcys will be hosting our sixth annual summer resource fair. the san francisco examiner put it on again this year. we had approximately 200 summer school because of the larger venue, we will have more participants. we can advertise this event with our parents in this city. the parents that are listening or watching today, if you want to find out about any type of parent related services or activities, they are looking for an after-school

as a librarian, i have a very strong sense of the public comments and the public good. these are not meant to raise money, they are not meant to generate revenue. as someone said earlier, the penny wise and a pound foolish. the whole atmosphere of san francisco is against having this kind of fee imposed and the privatization of the commons. i used to work for the san francisco botanical gardens society. i was there until april of last year. they have cut the library, use education back to practically nothing. they're putting all of their funding into trying to institute the fee and maintain it. we know it makes no sense financially. they are happy to have access restricted. they think that this is only for the few. they are unhappy about what was referred to as a mere comments which does not show that she understands what the idea of the public comments is. this is good for our physical and mental health, quality of life as a tourist destination and this is completely foolish to try and impose -- to think about penny pinching. the people who can appear running social se
