professor lichtman, thank you for being here.scinating book particularly from you, you are one of the few people, i know i didn't, predicted that donald trump would win. walk us through, how you think somebody who has a majority of his own party in the house of representatives. a party who stands by him despite all of his emollient violations and everything he does and has robotically followed him. >> transgressions could be serious enough. as you say, a collision with the constitution. over conflicts of interest abroad. possible collusion between his team and the russians and heaven forbid, maybe even some involvement of donald trump himself. beyond that the first rule of politics is self-preservation. and if those republicans in congress believe that trump has become a liability to them, they may be willing to jettison him. after all, every single one of them has to come up for re-election in 2018. and they may believe that they must prefer the predictable down-the-pike conservative mike pence to be president than donald trump.

at the back half of the last hour i spoke with professor alan lichtman who predicted donald trump would win, but he's also written in the book the case for impeachment. because of his campaign and his first 3 days, feels he's more vulnerable to that type of act. do you think that's possible? do you agree? >> no. i totally disagree. i think the first 100 days have been okay for donald trump. i would give him a good grade on foreign affairs. i think he's restored american leadership to the world stage, even bipartisan praise for the actions he took against syrias' leader, bashar al assad. on the domestic front it's true he doesn't have the big ticket item that bush 43 or obama had, but he did get neil gorsuch. that took up a huge amount of time in the first 100 days, he's signed more than double the number of bills into law than obama signed at this point. it's not like he's devoid of legislative accomplishments, they happen to be of a bit smaller scale. those accomplishments, especially those under the conditioningal review act, have thrilled his conservative republican base. >> also the

professor lichtman joins us now with more.gain this morning. >> good to be here. >> first of all, the difference between the research that went into choosing the president and the research that went into this book, what's the difference? >> big difference. for my prediction on elections, via formal tested predict tiffly for over 30 years. i don't have a formal model for impeachment there haven't been enough impeachments but my book is based on a deep study of the history of impeachment, the process of impeachment, donald trump's career and donald trump's actions in his first couple of months as president. >> and from that, you are making the strong statement that he is more vulnerable to impeach many than any other president in the history of our nation? why so? >> because i looked at eight possible grounds that derive from donald trump's history and his actions as president. he is the first president in history to be under serious investigation for possible collusion between his team and an attempt by a foreign power to under

a question allen lichtman posed in the first hour. the first hundred days don't really matter. he can still right the ship. that's correct. bill clinton didn't have a good first hundred days in 1993, but he righted the ship. the question, to your very poignant question, we look at a couple of things. do the american people trust this president. your poll and other polls show that the american people don't trust this president. they don't think he keeps his promises. they don't think he's trustworthy by a margin of about two to one. the second question is, are republicans supporting him inside the congress. you are already beginning to see republicans peel off, not just on the aca when he attacked the freedom caucus. but republicans increasingly calling for him to release his tax returns and calling for an independent investigation because the house has screwed things up so much on the russia connection. the russia connection is real. it's getting worse, and there are serious criminal issues involved for the president's staff and potentially the president himself. and so the que
