as we mentioned, monitoring all the fires across southern california, the lidia fire broke out yesterday afternoon and expanded to about 300 acres. it is now about 60% contained, according to authorities. the sunset fire was the latest threat to the los angeles area that officials say it is now fully contained. palisades fire as just mentioned about still the largest since the blaze broke out tuesday. it has expanded to more than 27 square miles. it's almost half the size of washington, d.c. several famous sites have been lost in the palisades, and topanga state park the topanga ranch hotel is in ruins. california state parks have been working to restoreself the cabins on the site. the home of the late actor will rogers located in the state park named after him was also destroyed. images from california state park show just fireplaces now standing at the site. and nearby, the state park the flames are inching closer to the iconic rivera country club. that's the venue scheduled to host the pga's genesis inventricle stational next month. heading east the eaton fire now burned almost 17 squ

the lidia fire is 75% contained now. >> the weather, specifically the wind, has been an issue all week long, certainly has. >> abc7 news meteorologist sandhya patel is tracking it for us. and have the conditions changed at all? sandhya. >> yeah, they have actually ama and dan and the reason for that is the winds have eased up. the offshore winds, high pressure and low pressure have separated and that has helped the firefighters gain ground on some of those fires. here is a live view from one of the largestve fires burning in southern california. obviously fires create their own weather conditions and that could be part of the problem. why? there are some still localized effects. here is a look at those fires. palisades fire over 21,000 acres. we are seeing containment increasing. kenneth. fire 50% right now. hearst fire 70% contained. the eaton fire is one of the larger fires as well. the winds have really started to ease. they switched direction coming more onshore, which obviously helps to bring a little bit more humidity. malibu 28 miles an hour right now. unfortunately, those winds

the kenneth archer, lidia and sun set fires 100 percent contained according to authorities.ckly spread really into one of the worst national disasters in california history. first the palisades fire. the los angeles fire department says it started around 10:30 tuesday morning right around this area. near pedro drive. the flames grew quickly 770 acres three hours. that's consuming nearly three football fields of land every minute. by tuesday evening, the powerful gust had blown the embers carrying it through the hillsides devouring really entire communities in their path. the palisades fire burn area continued to increase through the week becoming the largest of the wildfires. as of today, the burn area is nearly 24,000 acres or 37.1 square miles. just to give you some perspective there, this is washington, d.c. 61 square miles of land. can you see the size and scope of the palisades fire there and the devastation. that fire currently stands at only 14% contained. now, we go to the eaton fire burning in altadena and pasadena areas. firefighters responded to a blaze reported n

the lidia fire was at 40% containment and firefighters had stopped the sunset fire from spreading. crews battling the northern edges of the palisades fire were working in and around topanga canyon, trying to put out spot fires and save small communities that are hard to reach. it's an area around topanga canyon, a lot of winding roads here up into the mountains. this fire here is moving up this, uh, side of this mountain really quickly. just it's moved fast. just in the last couple of seconds that i've been standing here. there's a number of firefighters up here. they've got bulldozers. they're getting into place. uh, and they are watching this and getting kind of pre-positioned so that they'll be able to deal with this as as it gets here. over on this ridge, a large crew of inmates who have volunteered to learn firefighting skills, they are working, clearing. you see the road they're on. that's a road likely created by bulldozers earlier to kind of create a fire line. they are now widening that road, clearing out more underbrush, and then they will move to other locations. they we

overall evacuations for the palisades eaton hurst kenneth and lidia fires numbers are both for the county city area. evacuation orders are approximately at 153,000 residents. that are under the evacuation orders and approximately 57,000 structures are still at risk regarding evacuation warnings, approximately 166,000 or a little over 166,000 residents are under evacuation warnings. going to switch now to the curfew order that we have in place and curfew order was established for the palisades eaton fire areas, in all mandatory evacuation zones, that will be in effect from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. until further notice. that is something else we continuously will be evaluating. this curfew will be strictly enforced and is being taken to enhance public safety, protect property, and prevent any crimes specifically burglary or looting in areas where residents have been evacuated. many times when we're trying to evacuate people number one concern is, is somebody going to break into my house they shouldn't have to worry about that because they're worried about so many other things. this is trying to ass

chief lidia fire, what? when you hear this, you hear winds are picking up again. you hear 0% containment. these massive fires. it completely now defines the landscape. it defines when you fly into here, um, how much worse could this get as you see it? >> so as we keep approaching the critical fire weather and the fuels are already dry and they're continue to get drier over the next week with the predicted weather. >> and so the concerns that we get a new fire and we can have more disastrous fires. so currently all the agencies are bringing in additional resources from across the united states to try and help mitigate any new starts. our number one priority right now is new starts. the new starts locally, we're going to throw everything we can have at it so we don't have new large fires. >> and i don't know if people can hear watching some of those alerts that are going off on phones. sometimes they all go off simultaneously. some of those are evacuation orders. yes. um, and i assume you anticipate there's going to continue to be quite a few of those. >> absolutely

the lidia fire now finally 100% containment. so having those lower wind speeds certainly help there. the eaton fire has also jumped up in containment numbers. same thing for the kenneth fire. we hope that the others will continue to go up over the next couple of hours. those winds right now still single digits for most of these areas, but that is going to go up as we go through the rest of the day. you're going to start to see them jump into the teens and the 20s by this afternoon and eventually overnight tonight could even get up around that 30 to 40 mile per hour range. and that would continue through the early morning and afternoon hours on sunday as well. then we get a little bit of a lull sunday night before the next round comes in monday through wednesday of the upcoming week. now, one thing to note, when you get these winds that calm down, that is fantastic news for the firefighters trying to fight these fires. however, it's not exactly good news for the air quality because there's no wind to disperse those smoke particle
