your novel lillian bosch focuses on a real person but it entirely is a work of fiction as i understand. but this novel is based on 2 bona fide person and vision. how did you decide to write about real people and then take the fictional leap and what was that process like also to fictionalize parts of their story? >> that's a great question and i think the woman's real name is margaret fishback you can tell from the title i'm taking perhaps greater liberty. i invested more of that story and i felt like i wanted the book to call attention to the real margaret but i didn't want to point to my book and say this is abiography or anything like that . with these two i knew i had b to use his taxidermy and you can go see her but i think it's a surprise to historical fiction but any kind of fiction and their conversations happening now about how stories are given writers to tell so i think because of how i wanted to depict them in the first place but also how i 'wanted to give them personalities one big thing i've done that i haven't seen anyone else do is i'm pretty sure he was gay . i'm almos
