abc 7 news reporter lillian kim live in marin county but we will start with meteorologist drew tuma in for spencer christian. >> the cold front is approaching the bay area. ahead of the cold front we are starting to see showers break out just in time for the evening rush. we have green on the screen pressing locally into the north bay first, santa rosa, petaluma, light showers falling at this hour. further to the south, city of san francisco, even the east bay, widely isolated showers at this hour but watch what's approaching in the south bay, with heavier downpours that are all moving north over the next couple of hours. we will see that move throughout the bay area. let's time it out specifically in the south bay. in about the next half hour, san jose gets on this more moderate rainfall. in 45 minutes, right around gilroy. within the 58 minutes, this moderate band of showers will move through livermore. if you are waiting for someone to come into the airport, look at arrival delays right now, almost three hours thanks to the rain and low ceiling. oakland and san jose right now are no

. >>> abc 7 news reporter lillian kim is live in san francisco with a look at the damage done there. lillian? >> reporter: this is what's been causing problems on rainy days like today. ficus trees like this one that are all over the city. this morning one came crashing down in one of san francisco's busiest thoroughfares. crews in san francisco have been busy. at lombard street and buchanan, workers cut up a large tree that crashed on a trius. joe stefani was driving northbound when he saw the tree come crashing down. >> the roots rocked over the top of the car, and the roots were up in the air as it rocked over the car. but it just went right across all lanes of traffic. >> reporter: ficus trees have been problematic this rainy season. the weight of the water on the already top-heavy trees causes them to fall. crews have been eliminating or pruning them to prevent incidents like this one. >> they were planted 40, 50, 60 years ago. we don't plant any more now. really, many of them are not suitable for san francisco. they are very tall trees, big trees, and when they come down, they c
