countries, we are able to make sure [indiscernible] astrazeneca ceo joining us now to discuss is eli lillythey are looking at a potential anti-by treat -- antibody treatment, boosting is 2020 outlook shares. josh joins us now. we want to know when we get a vaccine and when we get treatment. timeline?ticipate a >> thank you for the opportunity. we are focused on antibody treatments for covid. we have two in clinical development. the one farthest ahead is getting ready for trials across includingm of care patients already sick with covid-19, patients just diagnosed, and even a prophylactic setting for residents of nursing homes and front-line care workers. starting trials in the next few weeks and depending on how fast they can roll, we expect to see data this fall and certainly by the end of the year. where does the biggest challenge lie with these products? is it figuring out the chemistry or manufacturing? >> manufacturing will certainly be a challenge. we first have to ensure antibodies will have an effect with early work to date. to the extent a drug like the antibody works, scaling up

should be higher, but the real outperformer and one we've talked about for a while continues to be eli lilly. on top of that you had a huge move today on amgen. i think that stock is making an all-time high which reaffirms the breakout in the ibb. big cap pharma and biotech continue to work and there's no reason that they won't continue to move to the upside. >> is pfizer the place that you want to play this when it comes to large cap mega cap biobiopharma or are there other players trafficking in vaccines right now that are better in your mind? >> i think in terms of relative value i like pfizer and merck. the news out of pfizer is on obviously exciting mo der that is in late stage trials one of the things we talked about on the show is this isn't necessarily a boon for the underlying drug companies. it's really more of a market call i want to own pfizer i work merck i actually think this is more of a market call. i think the common news we're getting is at least giving people some confidence that some of the smartest and best drug companies in the world are going after this we had great ma

companies like eli lilly and regeneron are using the neutralizing antibodies found in recovered patients then manufactured in the lab. they're known as monoclonal antibody therapies. >> to put them to good use in therapy or prevention is an exciting new technology. >> reporter: but there is an issue. some recent research has found that covid-19 antibodies may wane after several weeks and it was those who were sickest who tend to produce the most antibodies and keep in mind, the majority of people with covid experience mild symptoms. how does that compare to how long the antibodies will last from the vaccine? >> the typical half life of an antibody in humans is around three to four weeks. so those antibodies have given it a -- if given at a high dose could last for a couple of months. >> reporter: these are all considerations in developing a covid-19 treatment, as well as a vaccine. >> so sanjay, that all sounds promising. a bridge to the vaccine, obviously that's promising, but where is your optimism level in terms of the vaccine and how soon? >> well, i do think that with regard to the

eli lilly and others are also moving to phase three trials. what other medicines work?ell, there medicines such as drugs that will lock the immunological response. in fact, i am involved in two or three such efforts. one is to elicit a company that actually cofounded -- we found a mechanism to elicit a response -- a t cell response against covid-19, and that is in early trials at duke university. that is a company called myeloid. another one that i collaborate with, i use it, regulatory t , useslaborate with regulatory t cells. these are t cells to dampen the immune response. and finally, there are new drugs including a drug from cuba. and i should say, for full disclosure, i am collaborating with and am an advisor for it. again in trial for the , inflammatory phase of the virus. that is the second thing. this is not a time to sit back and relax. this is a time to actively put into trial medicines that we have invented or others have invented that work, or that potentially can work on covid. and the third thing that we learned is that having a vaccine is useless. being
