i'm dion lim. >> and i'm eric thomas. we begin with a look at the latest coronavirus numbers. new data out today shows california has again had a record number of deaths. the state reported an increase of 219 deaths yesterday for a total of 9,224. as for cases, the state now has 500,130 cases to date. the positivity rate, the percentage of coronavirus tests coming back positive, appears to be declining slightly. the rate is 7.3% over the past two weeks. state officials say this number will be the key to understanding spread as testing increases. >>> and as we continue our coronavirus coverage, we're looking at how we can build a better bay area despite the pandemic. we are focused on several key elements that include the economy. in san mateo, businesses are being ordered to close at midnight. the county has been on the state's watch list for more than three days now, which forces many indoor businesses, including hair salons and gyms to shut down. as of this morning, the county was still in discussion with the state about their status, so businesses hadn't closed yet. san mat
