that's the new lincoln mkz unveiled from ford. any bailout money at all. and he joins me now. quite an achievement. take me back to that moment when you guys had to decide whether to go for bailout money or not. >> well, when the industry went through the downturn, the good part at ford was we had a plan. we were in the pros he of boringing that plan and it was all about investing in product. coming together as a team to look at the reality. and to take the actions necessary to save the business while also continuing to invest in the business. so when the bailout discussion came down, we were part of that discussion in terms of supporting the industry. and at the end of the day, the plan has served us very well in delivering great products to our customers and allowing the company to get back on a very firm foundation and a growing foundation going forward. >> there was this weird anomaly. sales of new cars are going through the roof and you guys are making huge profits as a result. along with most of your competitors. and yet gas

tell us about it. >> no, this is the new lincoln mkz. it's a really stylish car. he past, it used to be sort of fairly old and fuddy duddy but this is a beautiful car. one of the interesting features is, it has a sun roof that actually rotates all the way back. the sun roof is over the front and rear passengers. when it's open, it gives you a beautiful view inside and lots of airiness. >> very nice. i think we're going to love the view of this one. we're going back to the future, the mclaren mp-4-12c. how much will this set you back? >> this is over $233,000. when you look at it, it is just amazing. and inside it so the of fits like a glove. just listen to this -- >> wow. >> that will get to you 60 miles an hour in about three seconds and over 200 miles an hour. >> three seconds to get to you 60 mile per hour! let's talk about the flying car they have there. >> this is an amazing piece of engineering. you know, we think about cars as being on the road. this car will actually fly. it's more of an airplane that can drive on the road. it will do about 70 miles an hour

theory serious and lincoln mkz will deliver savings in two years but for other models the extra costs so high that it could take decades to save money on new cars with conventional engines. if gas is $5 a gallon it will take 6 1/2 years for the hybrid fusion to pay off. and the nissan leaf got the same score. and the chevrolet volt with a stick are price of $40,000 could take eight years at $5 a gallon if the driver relies exclusively on battery. according to the volt people the volt has the highest customer satisfaction of any car. >> they are getting emotional fed back and a financial return because they are not going back to the gas station and seeing the difference in how much machine they pay for gas. >> and volt owners usually get 900 miles per tank and some are reporting up to 1,000 miles for a single gallon so they could pay more upfront but usually they only go to the gas station once a month. >>neil: one big exception to the report the prius, could be why sales of that hybrid hit an all time high. and now the c.e.o., with all of the vehicles, it is pricey. and i guess the a

. >> susie: we saw last night the unveiling of the new snazzy lincoln, the mkz. but you know, when you think luxury, most people think mercedes or bmw, not lincoln. what are you going to do to change that? >> first and foremost it's about compelling product. so when you see this vehicle on the road, or you see it in our advertising et cetera, and hopefully when you looat t elegant design and the craftsmanship that is in it, you'll see that's a vehicle that i'd like to check out. we're offering features on here that's new to the industry. we're offering a fully retrac retractable panoramic glass roof on here, which is basically a 15 square foot opening, it's like driving a convertible. and it gives a whole new die nam take a look the vehicle, not offered on other vehicles. >> susie: as you know, consumers have so many choices when it comes to buying a car. what are you doing to convince people to buy a ford? how do you keep those customers? >> fst off you continue to give them very compelling product. and in our case our strategy is very simple. give them the best

. >> i quickly want to ask you about the lincoln mkz. he unveiling last night here in new york. you are once again trying to position lincoln so that it's more competitive in the luxury segment. clearly a much more refreshed and aggressive look for the mkz but this is a competitive segment and people look at lincoln, sales relative to its competitors, you're not on the radar right now. how do you get on the radar and do as this put you on the radar? >> well, we think we have a really strong offering here. this segment is one of the biggest in the luxury segment. it's going to grow about 20%. this mark as major milestone in our reinvention of lincoln. it has great technology, really interesting design, craftsmanship. we think it's really going to stand out and has some really cool features to it. >> but it's just the beginning. you realize it's an uphill battle in that luxury segment? >> we have a great foundation in lincoln. the reinvention of lincoln will take place over the next span of years. >> mike jackson in the studio has a questio
