about 4:00 this morning three people were injured in an incident near lincoln park zoo. police say a group of people were hanging out near the bike path when several of the dark colored vehicles pulled up. one person was shot dead a vehicle hit a 25 year-old man did a u-turn and hit a 21 year-old woman. police say passenger in one of the vehicles continued to shoot at the group hitting another man. today police superintendent addressed this weekend's violence after he spoke about a series of successful police drug busts. he says the police department is making progress >> we have a lot of violence in the city of chicago. we have to keep doing what we're doing it because the trend is actually turning >> the superintendent says it will take a citywide effort to get gun violence under control in chicago with community leaders working closely with police to anticipate retaliation. >> in response to this summer of violence a double barrelled peace initiative would in a gun that turn in program to stop the bloodshed in >> >> the residents do not want to talk about violence. th

the best buy in the lincoln park neighborhood was robbed last night. burglars used a van to smash in the door at one thousand west north avenue. it happened at about midnight. a side door of the building was ripped out and left on the sidewalk. police have not said what items were taken or if they have suspects. during may burglars smashed into another best buy store and made off with i pads in the heat of the night -- an extra alarm fire gutted an auto repair shop in the gage park neighborhood. the fire could be seen for blocks away -- as the temperatures soared around 80 degrees. it happened at 50th and south western. fire fighters got the flames under control in about an hour. no one was injured. but the fire burned through the roof and caused one wall to collapse. no word yet on what caused the fire. those two left-lane exits off the eisenhower expressway in oak park may soon disappear, if some state planners get their way. the state transportation department says, the exits at austin and harlem have a much higher accident rate than other expresswa
