union terminal is located at the end of a quarter long mile drive, located at what used to be lincoln park in the west end. are two wings on either side of a half dome. the wings are were vehicles originally entered the building. they would pass under the main rotunda and go out the other side to pick up passengers. passengers would enter into the main rotunda where they would be greeted by an 80 foot wide, 106 foot tall arch that contained food services and other amenities for them before they headed back towards the train. terminal's dome was the largest in the world. it is a half dome. if it was a full dome, it would be a good 40 feet wider than the capital building in washington dc. when you walk into the return that you are greeted by two large mosaic tile murals on the left featuring history of the united states, and on the right featuring the history of cincinnati. the cincinnati mural features interesting characters, including the gentleman in the military uniform from the early settlement. general arthur sinclair was one of the first people settling in responsible for changing the

i couldn't get my play group in my inner sunset neighborhood down to the park at golden gate park and lincoln might have been the mississippi river and there were no crosswalks and crossing the street with a grouch toddler was -- group of toddlers was taking their life in the hands and i was in on committee chaired by supervisor dianne feinstein and we got the stop lights and every time i go through the intersections with my grandchildren now in tow i am grateful that the board of supervisors supported parents from throughout the inner sunset and haight ashbury and having access to a great resource that wasn't available. i learned in that play group working with 12 families in my neighborhood that unmet child care needs were then sadly in 1971, 72, a huge issue, not just for my family, not just for other families in district 5 and the inner sunset but throughout the city and with a grant from the rosenberg foundation i was happy to be part of a collect ofive that started the -- collective that started the child care switch board and sounds ancient now and it's an oxymoron and our goal was to
