linda. reporter: charley, in just a few hours the house and senate are expected to approve the bill by unanimous consent. it's a procedural measure so lawmakers won't actually have to return to washington on their holiday break. the deal essentially means you won't see a tax hike come january 1st. it came down to the wire with house republicans finally caving and agreeing to a short- term two-month extension of that parole tax cut. as part of the deal, the senate will appoint members to negotiate with the house on a one-year extension. that's what house republicans have been pushing for all along. the deal basically means you won't be losing $40 from your paycheck every two weeks. >> we all have bills to pay. we try to make it paycheck to paycheck the way it is. reporter: the president is urging congress to work out a compromise when they return for a one-year extension of the payroll tax cut. the short-term deal also extends emergency federal unemployment benefits which amounts to about $30

linda so has more. >> reporter: all new this morning that stretch of rockville pike reopened. we're also learning one person was airlifted to shock trauma. in all 11 people were hurt in the deadly crash. it happened after 4:00 yesterday and shut down that stretch of rockville pike for hours. investigators say a toyota pickup crossed the median and crashed into a metro bus. that caused the bus to hit a tree on the side of the road. the man driving the pickup was killed, identity not released. the driver of the metro bus had to be extricated, she's a 13-year veteran, taken to the hospital with serious injuries. it happened near samir's front yard. he tried to rescue the driver of that pickup truck. >> he said don't touch him. >> reporter: neighbors say that stretch is dangerous and lobbied the state for years to do something about it. meanwhile, investigators haven't released why the pickup crossed the median and hit the bus. >>> a south baltimore family lost their 5-year-old son after a crash o
