. >> your realtime captioner: linda marie macdonald. >>> good morning. it's friday, march 1.licoat. it is 6:31 on this friday. >> an update now on breaking news out of sonoma county. according to the sheriff, deputies shot and killed a suspect in guerneville overnight. deputies say it started with a kidnapping in san rafael. the victim was able to text a friend for help. that friend called 911 and officers were able to track down the suspect car. that's when a chase began. >> that all ended when the suspect's car crashed off the side of the road in guerneville. the victim escaped without injuries. the sheriff's department tells us a deputy shot the suspect during the arrest. the suspect later died. we have a crew on the way and we'll keep you updated. >> 6:32 now. bullets fly and people duck for cover. >> this morning some of the chilling stories of bystanders caught in the crossfire in the santa cruz shooting that killed two detectives. kpix 5 reporter anne makovec is in santa cruz with how the death toll could have been so much worse. >> reporter: officers are returning to
