small business administration linda mcmahon.am, thank you very much for being here. >> thank you. what a treat to be here. >> let's talk about small business because optimism did soar. it skyrocketed as soon as they learned that donald trump was going to be the president. it has stayed there. why -- why is that a good thing to have happened? and why should they feel like their confidence should stay there? >> well, certainly, that did happen. over the past three or four years we've seen start-ups and businesses decline. and so now there is this renewed optimism, that coming back, they think they're, you know, president trump when he was campaigning, has been a candidate, talked about tax reform. talked about regulatory reform. so when he was elected, you know, that optimism really did flow through and you saw many more start-ups again. and so that is part of what i want to do at sba. i want to continue to revitalize. you know, that spirit of entrepreneurship. and you can feel it. it's palpable. in talking to small businesses. >>

i was deeply overjoyed upon seeing your picture in the election against linda mcmahon. she has exercised disregard for the well-being of workers. she has allowed the nation to view flagrant intolerance. you publicly endorsed mcmahon, someone who is it antithesis of those convictions you firmly believe and have vigorously defended since the beginning of your career and subsequently voted in favor of her confirmation to head the small business administration. can you please extend the reasons for voting for her confirmation and possibly more important, is it true you keep diet mountain dew in your coke coffee cup at every committee hearing? sen. murphy: that is true. joining me is the new administrator of the small business administration, linda mcmahon.come. >> thank you, stephanie. great to be here. >> thank you. you are out this week on the small business tour across the country. what's it all about? >> it is celebrating small businesses. there are approximately 29 million small businesses and almost half of all american employees are employed in small businesses and it's the engine of our economy, backbone of our economy, so i'm visiting different businesses and the districts, sba has 68 districts around the country so today i'm in new york, tomorrow i'm in indiana, then i'm in dallas on thursday and fresno on friday. so it's a full week. >> we know that small business sentiment is up since the election. many have said they were sort of strangled by the threat of regulation, but taxes matter. president trump is looking to cut corporate taxes, but when you look at small businesses, when you really look at this bill, it's sort of the ultrarich who have their own finance arms, own mom and pop financial adviser, stock broker, but most

and applying that test to linda mcmahon as much animosity as we had for each other in that campaign, she does have experience and i don't believe that she's radical in the way that somebody like scott pruitt or judge gorsuch are radical. so, you know, it is a difficult thing because we do end up voting for people for these positions where we have deep political disagreements. but ultimately i worry about a senate in which every republican in the senate votes against anybody a democratic president ever puts up and vice versa. i'm not sure how you ultimately unwind that. every single one of these are tough calls, right. you presented a lot of, the most important issues here. and i'm learning constantly about how to best fight against this reckless agenda, about what issues to prioritize on a daily basis. that is the biggest part of this job, just sort of understanding how to spend 16 hours that you have every day while you're awake, and every single time i do something like this i think i get a little bit better. i think i refine my priorities a little bit more. again, i just feel so l
