we were interviewing linda singh. she was put in that position in january. she's the first woman and first african-american agitant general. she lives in prince george's county and her headquarters are just down the street why where all of this is happening, some people may be familiar with maryland health department complex in the city. they may have to do business up there. she's right across the street in a very large castle looking building the maryland national guard armory. this will be interesting to see what happens next. >> tisha and wendy thank you very much. you're looking at live pictures right now of a rather large crowd and growing. moving towards a liquor store and seemed to be trying to crowd their way into that store. >> there they go. >> presume it is to continue the looting process that began, i don't know maybe a couple of hours ago now. >> we understand shomari stone has an interview with somebody. he's talked to on the street. he just spoke to a baltimore resident about what he sees happening in his town tonight. let's listen. >> a lot

and then we will hear from general linda singh, who is the adjutant general of the maryland national guard. so i'm going to start now with colonel pelazi of the state police then take your questions after everyone has spoken. thank you. >> good evening. as the governor said i'm the superintendent of the state police. the governor's actions today are huge. we have been here along with many of our allies law enforcement, over 500 strong since wednesday working with the city of baltimore, helping to maintain as much order as possible. as you've seen many groups continue to splinter and move around the city of baltimore, looting, committing crimes in certain areas, setting places on fire. our mission will continue to be the preservation of life and property. i have had a conversation this evening with the commissioner. he certainly understands the scope of what is happening and we're coming in with additional resources to assist. the emergency order is big in that it allows us to branch out further. we've already put out a request for up to 500 additional law enforcement from the state o

thank you, sir. >> before we take your questions, we trn the podium here over to general linda singh from the maryland guard. >> the guard is activated this season and we have a full mrement in the state which means up to 5,000 troops can be put onto the streets to actually protect property and people. i would highly recommend that we all go in and take cover for the night and actually go to sleep and get some rest and let things settle down so we can restore order to the city. we're going to be out in massive force, and that means that we are going to be patrolling the streets to ensure that we're protecting property. we're in a supporting mode to if there are questions about martial law, this is not martial law. at that point the military takes over and we're not at that point. we're in support of the police department and we will take our direction from the police department as in where we go out and support. thank you. >> at this time we'd all be happy to take any questions anyone might have. any questions? linda, the commander of the maryland national guard. we have been seeing her with the briefings with the governor. how many national guards troops have been deployed in baltimore, general singhalmost 2,000 on ground in baltimore. we have access to another 3,000 if we need to. that doesn't include being able to access forces in our neighboring states that will provide us support when ever necessary. >> what is their mission, general? >> caller: our mission is to help maintain and restore peace in the community. we are in support of the police forces that are here and our goal is really to come in and help to protect property and ensure that you know, we can ensure that the citizens are going to be safe and that you know we can get everything back to what i think is going to be a city that is getting back to normal business. >> so i guess, i have been covering the military for awhile. the question rules of engagement. say the demonstration, we hope it doesn't, turns violent. what would the troops there, the troops of the maryland national guard, what are the rules of engagement? what would they do? >> caller: first off, the way we are using our forces are in terms of what we c
