linda so is live with what's going on involving some of the houses. linda. >> reporter: crews have been able to make a lot of progress here in the 1400 block of ford avenue. they have been here since monday causing the outage. next step this morning is they will be patching up the holes in the road and hopefully restoring gas service starting later tonight. the good news is about 100 homes and businesses are back online because they were rerouted to a different main. that is long antedous progress because they have to enter each home to turn off the gas. it's the only way to make sure the gas doesn't leak into the homes. last night bge crews had to start forcing their way into a hundred homes where they haven't been able to get in touch with the owner. a locksmith and police officer assisted once the repair to thebroken gas main is complete, workers have to go back to the homes to physically turn the gas back on. >> they may experience a light odor of gas but if they small strong order of gas we encourage customers to leave the premise immediately and
