two men were seen walking around 15 in the town of lindley headed toward path border. out both lead talked to witnesses and collect surveillance footage which has been inconclusive and further analyzed in the state police crime lab. the men could have covered 300 miles in a week if they walk roughly 15 hours a day and with another week passed they could now be in virginia, west virginia, ohio or beyond. >> we're not going anywhere. our plan to pursue these men relentlessly and until they are in custody. we will not stop our search or stop chasing lead until we have richard matt and david sweat back in prison. >> reporter: more than 600 local county a and state police are still involved in the manhunt along with federal agents, k-9 teams and aviation units now focused on patrols, structured searches and follow ups on the 1500 leads that have poured in. in the meantime investigations by the department of correctionness to how these men escaped continue and friday night the department announced, one corrections officers was being placed on administrative leave. they would

the next day, a town just south of there called lindley.he they actually have surveillance tapes from one of those two towns from a business that show these two men, both spotted by two different people walking nearby. the surveillance tape wasn't good enough for the police to determine if it was richard matt or david sweat who were walking near this business. they have now sent that tape to a crime lab for further analysis and hope to get some better pictures of those two men this weekend so they can determine if this was an actual sighting. they are taking it seriously. they went down there, spent the week interviewing people. that's how they learned of this surveillance video. they do continue their so muchearch mostly in this area. the foot searches continue here more than 600 miles of trails have been walked by state police. more than 200 unoccupied or camp-type homes have been searched fred. >> these two escapees, we understand they on the u.s. martial's list of escaped fugitives. how might that change the dynamics? >> whenever somebo

two men with the same description were later spotted walking along county route 115 in the town of lindley the pennsylvania border. joining us now for more, criminal profiler pat brown and cnn law enforcement analyst cedrick alexander. i want to start first with the male corrections officer placed on leave. we have not been given the specifics detailing why this corrections officer was placed on leave, but what would elevate an investigation of a specific person to go to that next step? >> well, probably what has happened here, victor, is that investigators have found enough evidence at this point to remove him from duty pending the ongoing investigation. i think we all have pretty much speculated very early on that it took more than just those two individuals that escaped to be able to carry out such a mission such as this. and i think as this investigation continues, we're going to learn more about why this correction officer is on administrative leave and i think we can pretty much make a reasonable assumption in that some kind of way he may have had something to do with the escape and

with the same description were later spotted walking along county route 115, that's in the town of lindleyward the pennsylvania border. police are asking residents who live in that area, be on the alert and call 911 immediately if you see anyone who looks like these two convicts. cnn law enforcement analyst tom fuentes is joining us now. tom, first of all, if this happened last saturday, why are we just learning about it now? >> i think the problem is we don't know, you know, the exact time they notified the authorities. i think a lot of people around the country may have seen a suspicious pair of people or even just one man meeting one of the descriptions and just thought, you know, there was so much focus in new york, the dogs were on the consent and 800 officers in the woods in the immediate proximity to the prison that a lot of people said it must not be them, they are still in new york. i think in fairness the marshals in particular were stressing all along don't just dismiss a sighting because you think all the focus is on new york. they could still be anywhere. many people from the

miles away from here two separate people in two separate towns, one in irvin, new york and one in lindleyeported seeing two men who fit the description of these two inmates walking. police didn't actually hear about this tip until tuesday. they interviewed people. they actually were able to obtain surveillance video of two men walking in one of those towns on friday that was yesterday. but the video was too poor in quality for them to determine if it's, in fact richard matt or david sweat who are walking in that video. they now have sent that video to the state crime lab for further analysis and enhancement. hope to have an answer on whether or not this was a confirmed sighting or not very shortly. fred? >> reporter: all right, sarah. and then the concentrated efforts now reportedly investigators will be looking a little closer at railroad tracks at you know roads that aren't usually tread as heavily. but will that mean a change in resources as they do it? >> reporter: so they've scaled back those grid type of searches here in this area near the prison, where they were having people walk

then on route 115 in a town south of there called lindley. these are very close to the border.away. if you were driving, it would take you about five and a half hours to get there. this is last week, june 13th. over the course of the week, investigators went down there. they interviewed people. they even found surveillance video showing these two men but it was inconclusive. now state police are sending that video to a state crime lab in albany hoping for more clues. as of right now the search is obtained to this immediate area. police telling us over the last couple of days that they have searched more than 600 miles of trails and 200 abandoned homes and camps and looking for these two men. there have been other sightings but these are new sightings we are learning of this morning. also last night, we learned about this corrections officer who has now been placed on administrative leave. note a whole lot of detail about this. we don't know if it's paid or unpaid leave. all we know it's a male corrections officer and we know from talking to the district attorney the last couple

these two towns, irwin and lindley, new york both of them along railroad tracks and both of them nearing was supposedly last weekend, police didn't learn about it until midweek and didn't obtain surveillance video to verify whether or not it was those two escaped inmates until friday and they're still today working on enhancing that video to determine if it was in fact those men. but that's part of what led to this massive search yesterday because that area is not that far away from where they began to search around 4:00 yesterday afternoon. very intense, active search in friendship new york. and it's along the same railroad tracks. so there was some speculation that these men could have traveled maybe along the railroad maybe along the highway that runs through there. we know that there's also a creek that they were very focused on for a long time. we know that from witnesses on the ground and that's what led up to this manhunt. a possible citing last weekend about 80 miles east near the border and then again this call yesterday afternoon that police told -- law enforcement officials

the next day a witness saw two walking on county line road in lindley.or additional witnesses and clues and analyzing the surveillance tape from the area. the men could have covered 300 miles in a week if they walked 15 hours a day. that was last saturday when the spottings were made. inhey could have traveled another 300 miles. they could be in west virginia virginia, ohio or anywhere else else. they have been added to the 15 most wanted list which is reserved for the worst of the worst. there is a total of $150,000 in reward money being offered for information leading to the arrest and capture of the two escaped killers. meanwhile the corrections department has put one corrections officer on administrative leave as to what went wrong inside this prison. they continue and there could be more discipline and more policy changes made heather in the days and weeks ahead. in the meantime the prison wants the community to know the first escape in the prison's 150-year history will most likely be the last. >> what an elaborate escape it was. rick levanthal liv
