i've noticed a serenity and calmness to lindsey davis here tonight. isn't it nice not to have to moderate the debate? another sort of elephant in the room here is that the country doesn't really know these guys that well. they're both american dads, but they're so different. >> this is essentially tonight big dad energy versus hillbilly elegy. when we talk about tim walz, a relatively unknown american governor, but people who do know him know him for his flannel shirts and his folksy style. it is a guy who was born in rural america in a county in nebraska that boasts more cows than people. he's often said there were 25 people in his high school graduating class, 12 of them were his cousins. he served in the national guard for 24 years. started out as a high school social studies teacher and football coach, then turned congressman, ultimately governor of minnesota. but many people affectionately still call him coach walz. many people will remember seeing some of the members of that high school state championship team that he coached that went on stage
