i'm linsey davis. we're down to the wire in the race for the white house. the polls across the country will be closing in about 48 hours from now. our latest polling suggests a tight race but a stunning poll shows vice president harris leading in solidly red iowa. as both harris and former president trump make their case in the battlegrounds. today, trump made headlines in pennsylvania saying he should not have left office and earlier, the former president suggested he would not mind if someone shot at the reporters covering his rally. harris campaigning in michigan today, urging voters to turn the page on hatred and division. the vice president sent off her california absentee ballot, joining 77 million other americans who have already cast their votes. we have our team reporting tonight from the campaign trail, including those all-important swing states. and here at our abc news headquarters in new york, we'll break down what to look for on election day. abc's white house correspondent maryalice parks leads us off. >> reporter: tonight, even before millio

i'm linsey davis. with thanksgiving just a few days away, millions of americans are getting ready to hit the roads and skies in likely record-breaking numbers but that rush could get complicated. rain and snow are in the forecast for both coasts throughout the week, including on tuesday. one of the busiest travel days, and that may slow things down a bit. the tsa says 50,000 flights will be in the air, and the faa is opening up restricted air space on that day. airports are already packed as some travelers get a jump on the rush. the weather could also snarl traffic on the roads, but there is some good news for drivers. gas prices continue to fall. and more welcome news after that major carrot recall. one of the companies involved is reassuring consumers who are shopping for a staple of the thanksgiving table. we have team coverage tonight. abc news meteorologist somara theodore leads us off. what can travelers expect? time this all out for us. >> reporter: well, linsey, we are anticipating an active w

i'm linsey davis. several developing stories. president-elect trump announces who will not be serving in his upcoming administration. a deadly mass shooting shatters homecoming at one alabama university. we begin with the wildfires burning on both coasts tonight. here on the northeast, an unprecedented stretch of dry weather is fueling fires outside new york city. and they are now deadly. this weekend, an 18-year-old new york parks employee died battling a blaze near the new jersey border. the fires created a haze over parts of the region and multiple air quality alerts. and in the west, southern california's mountain fire has already burned through 30 square miles and destroyed more than 130 structures. firefighters are struggling to get the upper hand. abc's morgan norwood leads us off with the latest. >> reporter: tonight, firefighters in new york and new jersey racing to put out a dangerous wildfire that's already claimed at least one life. the jennings creek fire burning in a rural area about 35 miles northwest of new york c
