mountain lion away. the problem is discharging a firearm in the city limits is illegal so that person may face charges. still, this was a pretty picture perfect ending to about a 15-hour game of cat and mouse. now, the 90-pound mountain lion is sleeping in this picture after it was tranquilized. the young male cougar was spotted around this time yesterday morning not far from downtown san mateo blocks from the very busy el camino real. it was spotted several times during the day near palm and 9th avenues moving through people's back yards. eventually rangers were able to corner it and that's where the story is a little different. more often than not when mountain lions make it into neighborhoods rangers have to shoot and kill was be it's not safe to tranquilize it. i've covered that story a number of times. this time they were able to corner it and hit it with two darts and it went to sleep around 7:45. >> it ran around a little bit and then the drugs take effect. it's, you know, just like any narcotic,

this is the 90 pound mountain lion that was the center of attention all day long. it was first sighted around four in the morning and several times throughout the day and in several different locations. finally, around five, police and game wardons zeroed in on it's locationwhich was in the back yard of a home on ninth avenue near el camino real. the cat was hiding in a tree with no where to go.so, everyone held their positions and tried not to scare the animal into running off again. a wardon from the california department fish and wildlife got the tranquilizer kit out and started mixing the cocktail that would eventually go into a dartthe first shot missed but the second two didn't. after the second dart struck the lion in the rear, it jumped out of the tree and over a walleventually, it was cornered in some bushes on ninth street with no where to go and the sedative setting in. officials are saying this was the best possible outcome for the animal and the people who live in this neighborhood. andrew hughan >> very unusual to see a lion this far in town but it wa

a sea lion rescued from the refugio oil spill.has died. the male sea lion was in critical condition when it arrived at sea-world thursday. he was immediately washed off and hydrated at the facility. officials plan to do a necropsy.to determine the cause of his death. another sea lion and an elephant seal were brought to sea-world friday. and they are being treated by vets and rescue members. officials say they are hopeful two animal will survive. last week's oil spill has sparked a protest calling for clean alternatives to oil. an inflatable fake oil pipeline was used as part of the demonstrations. the company that owns the pipeline estimates that as much as 105-thousand gallons of crude oil may have spilled from the broken pipe. the oil from the spill has contaminated many of california's nearby beaches since tuesday and has harmed wildlife in the region. >> brian :mild conditions on this memorial day weekend. things are remaining on the cool side we also have some strong winds coming in from the sea breeze. in fact there is a wind adviso
