and since early may, there's been a spike in sea lions at pier 39. and biologists told us that they're here for all the anchovies we have up here. there were more than a thousand, which is the most we've seen in 15 years. turn out to our climate in crisis. we know wildfire smoke is damaging in so many ways. and in a new study published today, scientists focused on how it's impacted our lakes ecosystems. scientists at uc davis say that during the largest fires on record, smoke covered nearly 75% of california. and here to give us more insight is meteorologist vianey arana varney. so how damaging has all of this smoke been to our lakes? you know, when we look at smoke, we look at the air quality impacts to us humans, but it's also impacting things like our lakes. and what scientists did is they looked at responses to wild smoke folk in those lakes. and between 2018, 2020 and 2021, what they found during those years is that was the three largest fire seasons on record in the state, and during that time, the lakes were exposed to an average of 33 high de

but not mountain lion. okay, around 4:00 this morning, another security camera at a home a couple miles away captured what could be the same mountain lion scaling a fence. well, police say they used a drone with heat seeking technology to try to find the animal, but never did. state fish and wildlife says if you encounter a mountain lion, don't run. instead, put your hands up to make yourself look as big a big as possible and make a lot of noise. thieves down in l.a. are getting high tech and very creative. this is happening in the upscale city of calabasas. police say thieves are hiding cameras in yards to monitor when people leave. so they know when to break in. homeowners have found cameras and battery packs in front yards and flower beds. there was no sd card in the camera. it's possible that they were accessing it remotely in some capacity. you could never tell. could you know you'd have to be up close. it's invasive. it's scary. yeah. as soon as i get home, i'm going to check all the neighbors yard to

the sea lions are packing it in out at san francisco's pier 39. skyfox flew the city's northern waterfront today, and according to officials, the sea lion count is the highest it's been here in 15 years, with about 900 sea lions spread out on those docks. officials say that's due to an abundant supply of anchovy in the bay. and because of that steady food supply, the sea lions are extra active and very playful. right now. >> so, mike, don't ask for any anchovies on your pizza. not at all. you're not going? >> not at all. >> they're not sharing, not taking it from them. okay. and to repeat, in the words of the observant mike mibach at this hour, we do have a little sliver of fog that's laying low underneath the golden gate bridge. yeah, that's what you're going to wake up to tomorrow morning. might obscure a little bit of visibility next to the seashore. other than that, we are monitoring this right there. right now. it's an area of low pressure. it is a cold front. it's not characteristic for this time of the year. and this system here, it's going
