lisa sylvester is joining us now with more on this part of the story. lisa? >> $2.1 trillion in cuts, and the first wave of that actually starts in fiscal year 2012. congressional approach aye tors are going to have to take out their red pens and decide how to cut billions from the budget. the debt ceiling deal swings a big ax up front that grows even bigger over time. starting next year, $25 billion will be cut from discretionary spendinging. the government's day to day operating budget. the cuts grow larger until 2021, reducing the deficit by $917 billion. so who will likely be impacted? at the top of the list, federal workers who are already operating under a two-year pay freeze. john gauge, the president of the american federation of government employees is anticipating layoffs. >> this is pretty drastic stuff. and i don't think the agency can simply, you know, these cuts for them to be enacted have had a huge implications for the agencies. and they can't be -- they can't be met by freezing travel or training. you know, this is really to the bone stuff in

lisa? >> yeah, the fire danger really benefitting from the summer of troughs where we have seen the cooler than normal temperatures. and we definitely really back up in the fire danger. but hey, we have september and october to get through. we're looking at the warmer weather in the seven-day outlook. today, it will be another cooler than average day. but little warmer than yesterday in some neighborhoods. 56 in oakland. 61 in fremont. 62 in san jose. the fog, it's wherever except by the carquinez strait, delta. we have a west wind all the way to the east bay valleys. the fog will sit here by 1:00 this afternoon. so we are looking at low 80s in the inland valleys. that means a quicker burnoff by 9:00, 10:00. you will notice in the north bay, we have fog poichlt reyes, 60s along the shoreline. 70s along santa clara. it will keep cooler numbers around the bay today and tomorrow. 68 in oakland. 73 in fremont. 76 in san jose. we have a first cool week of august and then warming up next week. >>

lisa. >> hi. yes, it continues to weaken as it pushes on shore so right now hurricane irene is a category 1 with winds down from 90 miles an hour to 80 miles an hour. it's not a big difference because we are still looking at a massive storm surge, very heavy rain, gusty winds, and it continues on its track right along the coast. the question was whether or not it was going to be a little further to the east or west. now it looks like it will be hugging the shoreline here. so we are looking at tropical storm force winds all the way lou today. hurricane force winds along north carolina's outer banks as this begins to move to the north. we are looking at that storm surge right here. chesapeake bay, very low levels of the sounds there, over a foot. and on top of that, two to three inches of rain possible. so this will continue to weaken as it moves up. very heavy rain expected right through tomorrow and into monday morning. and boston, new york city, and here's the circulation right now. you can see t

host: let's go to lisa. caller: that's definitel people on capitol hill have been talking about, it's the new normal. the debt ceiling has been raised many, many times, without this much drama and conflict surrounding it. is this what we're going to see every time? because we are going to have to raise the debt ceiling again. a lot of issues tim is pointing out, the hill is anticipating tax reform or something like that. but on the republican point, what's interesting to me about that, certainly a lot of people view this deal and say the republicans came out ahead, and i think that's right. i think they have changed the conversation here in washington. but what's intesting is that many in the base don't think so. there's a lot of republican groups and republican voters, tea party groups unhappy with this deal. i think that's because this class came in with such big promises and such big expectations. we'll have to see whether voters feel they meant that, even though democrats are very unhappy with the deal.

lisa lynch, we'll start with you. we've looked at the numbers many times over the last month. some relief today? >> yes, certainly after all the drama we had over the past week, there was a collective sigh of relief when the numbers were released this morning. in particular when you look at the gains in private sector employment, 154,000 jobs added by the private sector. but at the same time, the headline number of just 117,000 net new jobs is only enough to keep up with the growth of the working age population. and really doesn't do anything to make a significant dent into the pool of 14 million workers out of work. >> brown: where did you see when you look at sectors, anything jump out at you in terms of growth or potential growth? >> well, the good news is in today's report a lot of the employment gains were distributed across different parts of the economy. so we have the old reliable health care sector added over 30,000 net new jobs. manufacturing added 24,000 net new jobs. half of them in the auto industry. retail sector was up, business and technical services were up. m
