lisa: welcome to bloomberg world headquarters here in new york. i am lisa abramowicz. and i am david gura. it is time for massive change in brazil and the president is on the verge of impeachment. david: and countries are going accord ine climate paris. we look at the impact of climate change. julie hyman has the latest. julie? julie: we get closer to the close on this friday. investors are still weighing a lot of it news and the dow has turned higher at this point despite eight -- despite a tough as caterpillar, general electric, microsoft. the nasdaq is taking the biggest tumble of the three major averages. it looks like energy is the best major group at this point. because of financials as well, this is pulling stocks back up. you look at what is going on with energy, oil prices are up by nearly 2%. southwestern energy, one of the energynergies -- companies to report its stock, has gone up. within the financials, we have also had earning it news, and that includes suntrust and eat tree financial as well, 3.5% -- e-tree financial at 3.5%. david: all right, some gains

lisa, back to you. lisa: bonds have done amazingly well this year, better than stocks in many cases. joining me from st. louis is sameer samana from wells fargo. your view is that stocks will do better than bonds. it is better for investors to be overweight equities rather than bonds. can you walk us through how you got there? theer: for most investors, goal is to get from point a to point b. take whatever money they have on hand today and try to grow that through retirement. if you look at the rate of return on the three major asset classes, stocks, bonds and cash, if you are trying to generate a rate of return above inflation, if you look at cash, you deal with zero levels. , use the 10at bonds year as a proxy, it yields around 1.7%. almost no real return. look at stocks, look at the earnings yield, it's about 5.5%. close to historical levels. that gives you about 3.5% above the rate of inflation. if you try to generate after inflation returns, you want to focus on stocks. lisa: a lot of investors are

lisa: thank you, julie.till ahead on "bloomberg markets," argentina tangos with the global bond market for the first time in 15 years. why we could see a record sale as the nation moves. ♪ lisa: you are watching "bloomberg markets." david: argentina returns to the international debt market today for the first time in 15 years. the country is planning to sell over $16 billion in bonds in a four-part offering them a single day record for developing countries. , very aware excited of the importance of the sale. lisa: this is a very big sale in size and significance. it was originally just going to be $10 billion, it has been upsized to $6.5 billion because of incredible demand. billion.6.5 three-year argentinian bonds are being proposed with a yield of 6.25 percent. a ukrainian three-year yield is 10%, the two countries have the same credit ratings. david: how did we get to this point? leadership, he has come out and made this an important point that we need to access the capital markets. we have left billions

lisa: i love it.did not give us pricing, but good to see technological innovation has not stopped at sony. matt: that is a good one for the kids, but i heard there was an adult website prank. i heard you talking about on the radio. cory: the big business of torn cornnhub coming up with hub, and making every sexual pun they could. google -- the google might drop -- one e-mail that lets you stop the conversation and even create that would happen. it actually backfired with people trying to use it and it crash the system and they thought it was serious. lisa: there are some scary consequences -- it was basically a minion dropping a microphone, and the receiver could not respond. funeral homes were sending out e-mails and pressing the home -- wrong button, say we are so sorry for the loss of your loved one and the person was not able to e-mail back. somebody did say they lost their job as a result. google saying it looks like we cranked ourselves. it caused more headaches than last. we are truly sorry. yo

lisa: the indexed funds are cheaper.nk about etf's, mutual funds that don't have to have the active credit selection. you also think the federal pushve would basically further down yields on bonds across the board, fueling a lot of these gains. could thought come if i just get into that market, i could get some gains. was come investors knew there would be a buyer for any debt that the not have to scrutinize it. the new if the big bond issuance , theying to be bought knew if they bought a new allocation, it would immediately pop and somebody would bite within the next 30 minutes. that's what you saw the proportion of the index increased to such a degree that was made up of energy companies. david: you see that worrisome uptick -- is there a chance they would not known about all these investments in energy? lisa: i've talked to investors who've said frankly they did not realize it and they were not necessarily overweight energy, it was just a matter of them falling -- following the indexes, trent to get exposure to high-y

lisa: what about food? how important is it?tarbucks food sales and whether they are managing to diversify away from just averages? that's just beverages? it's been driving a couple hundred basis points for the last couple of years. the mobile app, the rewards program come all that is helping , which isore food very important for them. the average check is $5.20. seems like i'm spending too much on starbucks. this company has done a lot of acquisitions. eavanna, evolution fresh -- peter: i don't know what they would need right now. they are executing very well. they are already getting growth from food, beverage innovation, digital growth. unit growth in the u.s., internationally. tea as well. i don't know that there is anything missing. there is nothing missing for them. , theyif growth slows would look for an acquisition, but we don't see that anytime soon. lisa: what would the headwinds be? peter: this transition on the loyalty program. does it irritate some guests were now spending that who are now spending three dollars or

lisa, david, back to you. david: another surprise this morning. the bank of japan announced is holding up monetary stimulus. the governor is assessing the impact of negative interest rate. lisa: let's look at how effective the bank of japan's policies have been. some said they prompted others to lend more all say -- others say they are doing more job than good. joining us is an internationally renowned economist. professor ito, where do you stand on this? have negative rates been helpful or more harmful? >> i think it is helpful. that would stimulate lending at a lower rate to housing and businesses. we had not seen the quantities yet. i think the housing loans, the mortgage rate has been down. a lot of refinancing of interest. and new takers. we have not seen that as an investment yet. against theticism negative interest rate japan. januarythe last time, 29 was the last time interest rate was introduced. yentwo business days the depreciated in the stocks went up, but there were other forces that came into the stock price went down. those long rem

lisa: with respect to your u.s. holding some much of that the credit is in riskier securities versus investment grade and with the risk year are you diving into energy-related stuff or looking at distress? -- distressed? are not looking into distressed. we started to defer towing recently and by recently i mean march and april. our portfolio is roughly 40% below investment grade though not all of that is corporate credit. itfact if you think about lower energy prices, lower inflation is good for the consumer and that is good for homeowners and good for mortgages. lisa: what do you think is your most contrary and bet? guest: we have a position in tips and so that means we are expecting inflation. the market clearly does not behave as if we are going to have inflation but we think central banks ultimately will reflate economies and therefore having that protection in your portfolio is quite attractive. particularly at these levels of breakeven's in tips. david: that was andrew johnson. it is no dead the beach for puer
