i'm lisa mateo.>> pushing inflation down to a certain level by pushing unemployment up is going to become increasingly difficult for the fed to stick to, that policy, especially when you have all of these problems in other parts of the world. the pressure is going to mount on the fed. jon: we are 12 minutes away from cpi in america, going into that number, your markets shaping up, six-day losing streak. right now futures are positive by 1.1%. yields are lower, this headline is just out of germany. for those that missed it, the german inflation next year is likely to be between 7% and 8%. lisa, that's next year. not end of the month or end of the year. lisa: where was it six months ago? way down from that. how much and how quickly are things developing? they are downgrading their growth forecast pretty dramatically because this is the stagflation fear that so many people had with germany in the crosshairs. jon: it's materializing. jeremy, 11 minutes now, cpi around the corner. what are you and the tea

jonathan: great fun, lisa. lisa: have a great one. starts thursday afternoon. stick around. we'll yield a little later to -- really yield a little later too. lisa: i'm looking forward to hearing what marty walsh has to say. you have been parsing through the data, what have you discovered in terms of some of the nuances? mike: we looked at what happened with the unemployment rate, but the interesting thing is, we did see a seasonal effect in education. state and local education lost 21,000 jobs, which is going to be seasonal, because in september everybody comes in. they did not hire quite as many people as they thought. so we probably would have had a little bit bigger number, but we did have a big again in august, and maybe some of the school districts have moved their business to august, moved the start of school year to august. then retail sales, retailers gained only 1000 jobs. even though service-producing jobs were up 206 to 4000, most of it comes in temporary help in business services. so maybe companies are doing the opposite

lisa: a lot.d through the era of people railing against rates, plane. now they are getting 9% average yield on things that actually look better because these companies have preserve cash. jonathan: those people have been complaining about low rates. i haven't had enough of that. we're going to take some opportunities here. does that resonate with you, what was said over the weekend and that i more excited about 2023 than i've been in a really long time? >> absolutely. you don't even need to go to high yields to get interesting yield. north of 7%, it is a four-year piece of paper. i think you're going to be well-compensated for that. again, time horizon matters. 28% return. that is going to be a good investment. jonathan: how has business changed? can you walk us through that? do you get a sense that people see the world the way you see the world? >> i absolutely do. i presented at a few conferences and the interest in fixed income is much, much higher. people are excited about it. the thing is, it

lisa: well said. we are seeing the longest consecutive weekly increases in yield declines in price for the 10 year treasury. how much does this reset the understanding of where equity valuations are? how much does that change because the yield equation doesn't give them the freedom? tom: there is this talk of powell and volker. we will talk about that in the 8:00 hour. what is so important is with the 10 year yields, the sort of edge of the historic volker moment's 1981 or 1982. lisa: the question is whether larry summers and bill dudley were right whether the yields could go higher than anyone thought was possible because the markets haven't broken and because the global nature of a selloff that has persistency we haven't seen in an entire generation. tom: if you are done, the housing market is down on the 30 year mortgage. what do you use as yours? lisa: i am looking to take a page out of your book, real yields are speaking volumes. one point 76% on the 10 year, adjusted for the market expectations

lisa: i love that. jonathan: that's how a lot of people fell at the close, the two-year, 450 in yesterday session. typically if you tell me where the bond market is i can guess where the equity market finished, that was not the case. yields responded in the way we expected them to respond to the print. the equity market did not. lisa: the equity market was one of the only markets that did not respond in the way you would expect it to. you saw the dollar gain, continue to gain today anyway. although briefly dizzy stability in terms of the dollar globally which perhaps some people said could have been a trigger. i will not speculate. still you see in march the terminal funds rate, four point 9% currently priced into the market to give you sent how aggressive people are pricing in this federal reserve. i'm not sure where the optimism is where we saw this mass of u-turn and markets. jonathan: attention shifts this morning, we go through the bank earnings, retail sales later. we gotta talk about the u.k.'s w
