lisa: i agree.big lots considering filing for bankruptcy yesterday with the downturn that they are seen in consumers. my issue is when you take a look at some of the motley numbers from companies, are we looking at something overall or is the confusion we have seen from the post-pandemic economic cycles that are specific to different companies and is that muddy the waters more? it is hard to reconcile. jonathan: same is true the economic data and aggregate. it has been misleading. the bifurcation has been extreme through a number of years, and the dollar general over the last 24 hours speaks to that. we are talking about catering to low income shoppers, and words like this are pretty concerning for the government and central bank alike. when you hear from the dollar general ceo and he says that inflation continues to negatively impact households, more than 60% claim they have had to sacrifice basic necessities. tk is good about this, you talk about half of the country being flat on its back, loose w

lisa a.: lisa shalett, thank you for being with us.g and informative data, including walmart earnings which came out. some of the details in this really presented a conflicting image about the precipice of a downturn. walmart is gaining market share not just in some of the staples aspects but the general merchandise category which had been flat on its back. they saw a slight pickup in discretionary items which have been in decline for 11 quarters. line by line, the increased sales. the earnings forecast. not that they see some sort of ability to float out of the water but lack of weakness. this does not speak to a consumer flat on its back. dani: that's the important part, it's not weakness. some consumers are looking for value. that has been the threat across earnings t -- thread across earnings. it's a stretched consumer but not a weak one. maybe we just look at this through the corporate lens. it is getting more competitive for consumer companies. there will be margin compression. that is not a recession. annmarie: we have seen that
