let's go back to lisa goldman, a fellow at new american, a think today in washington, d.c. she specializes in american- american-israeli-palestinian analysis. you say this is dividing jewish americans? >> as you pointed out earlier are overwhelmingly democrats. they also tend to be overwhelmingly supportive of israel. when i say supportive of israel, the existence of the country is important to them for emotional reasons that go back to all sorts of historical factors. i think the prime minister sort of very, very cleverly, as he's a very good speaker. he's a very good rhetorician. he drove home the point that jews have this traditional trauma of being a pursued people. they feel like they need israel as this shelter state. >> how would you characterize the speech. was it apologetic if your opinion? or was it explain tore. >> it was not the least bit apologetic. the prime minister was absolutely in his element. he is a very self-confident speaker. he was in front of a sympathetic audience. he represents the country that he described as the jewish state rather than the state

here with me in new york, lisa goldman. she is the israel palestine fellow at the new america foundation. i begin first, ronen, with you. tell me, because we only have 10 minutes on the satellite with you, and i want to get you in early, tell me what happened in this election. ronen: i think that this was not a vote for netanyahu. he is not a magician. i think people dislike him in israel. he lost much of the trust. the final result just proved that this is a right wing nation. most of the people belong to the far right or central right, and people believe after 20 years of failed peace process there is nothing at the other side. the defiance of the u.s. government, bringing iran to the top priority to the agenda radicalizing his views, taking off the mask for his right-wing approach, denouncing his own support for a two state solution all led to a magnified siege mentality and at the end of the day it is worse for him, not because of his personality, but because of his theology. charlie: what happened? ari: this was a refe

join amy to discuss is lisa goldman. lisa what did you make of his comments? lisa: it is obvious that he is very angry at netanyahu. netanyahu burned a letter bridges during his recent campaign, starting with speaker boehner's invitation to address congress and then his jim crow-like race baiting. and he also, two days before the election, told a news magazine that he would never allow a palestinian state to be established on his watch. those three things are crucial for the obama administration and that was an absolute slap in the face for them. alex: he specifically address the facts and, basically, the news media is making this about netanyahu versus president obama and that is not the case. they are still united but they do not agree on this one thing. ? do you buy that lisa -- do you buy that? lisa: not at all. for years, they have had a rocky personal relationship but they also have -- they view things very differently. netanyahu has never wanted a two state solution. president obama, during his trendsetting speech that he gave at cairo university in 200
