1960s when a series of workshops happened here spearheaded by a ceramics professor named harvey littleton, so this is a case of works by what we would call pioneers of the early studio glass movement toledo as a city and the museum played an important role in this watershed moment in the history of studio. us which really kind of takes us back to the early 1960s in 1962. there was a man who taught ceramics at the university of wisconsin-madison. who really wanted to experiment with glass and he worked with the director then at the tma the toledo museum a man named ottawa whitman to initiate initiate a series of workshops. and the first one hartman happened in march of 1962 and harvey sent out a letter to a group of other ceramics professors around the country and invited them to come to toledo and participate. in a glass blowing workshop where they would experiment and so they came here in set up a furnace they built a furnace. they didn't know how to melt glass and so they went to a local scientist a man named dominic libino who worked at a company called john's manville that made fiberg

having covered aurora there on the ground and covered, you know, what happened in littleton, coloradoe shooting there at the school from afar. i wasn't on that scene. but all within the, my time as a journalist. and every time you cover one of these incidents, it does not get any easier. as the people there on the scene that, these people were going about their daily lives. they were buying groceries in the grocery store. we take it for granted every day and just do it. and we never think that we'll be gunned down or shot or injured just doing our daily errands and daily chores. quite sadly though, the police departments in colorado are trained for this, given the history of mass shootings in that state. >> yes, they are. certainly across this country as well, too. regardless of how well trained you are, when these events happen, officers respond with a great deal of courage. and they know the mission. oftentimes they know what they're going into. oftentimes they may not. regardless of the case, they have to go in courageously to locate a target and neutralize that target if necessary
