meteorologist mark tamayo is tracking the conditions but we begin with ktvu's cara liu who is learning new information about the evacuations. >> the weather conditions posed a challenge for firefighters out here in fairfield today. it took 2-1/2 hours to get the fire under control. and right now they are ballparking it at 10 achesser. it started -- acres. it started about 2:00 p.m. there is a lot of dry grass, temperatures were in the 90s. there were homes nearby. the fire did jump to the north side of highway 12. firefighters did bump this up to a four alarm fire enlisting the help of a strike team as well as a half dozen other area fire departments wanting to know as many resources on it as possible. 20 homes on james street were revacuated at one point for a -- evacuated at one point for a while. >> dry grass. very fast spread of fire right now. this year. just with the drought conditions. we -- we bumped up our first alarm. we added more engines and it still wasn't enough. it spotted a quarter mile. which is uncharacteristic and with the winds fires move very fast. >> reporter: 30
