i want to bring in ben white and chris liu, deputy labor secretary during the obama administration, now a senior fellow at the university of virginia. let's get your reaction to these jobless claims. we've heard the economy is just going to snap back. when you've got now in the last few weeks over 15 million people on unemployment, what does the future look like to you economically? >> stephanie, these numbers are staggering. we've never seen anything of this magnitude. and there's good reason to believe these numbers are going to continue at this pace for the foreseeable future since a lot of the large states like georgia and florida and texas have only recently implemented stay-at-home orders. but i think what it raises broader questions about whether we're really going to get this v-shaped recovery that some people are predicting. and i think a lot of it is going to depend on how much longer the economy stays closed, whether we're able to get the small business loan program functional to pull some of these people off the unemployment rolls and hopefully keep them on company payrolls.
