community arts space is that i just love, and it makes our neighborhoods a much more colorful and livable as well. >> what motivated your interest in politics? >> i guess i have always been passionate about civil rights and equality for everyone, and i have a 10-year-old daughter, so having a girl has made me much more sensitive to gender equality and other issues, but i guess i have always been someone that is vocal about my politics, but as a supervisor, and having to listen to many perspectives before making key decisions. as an activist in chinatown, i have always felt that working families and people who work in our neighborhoods need to have much more support. it is always about giving more voice to immigrants or the underserved and workers in the city. that is what drives my passion as a supervisor. >> tell me about the process of running for supervisor. what did you learn from the campaign process? was anything surprising? supervisor mar: i had to move from being a regular person that barely gets his kid to school on time and makes her a healthy lunch to having to go to a photo op

sustainability, accessibility, health, livability and economics. and what do i tell about it? well, for sustainability, cycling is emission-free, uses hardly any oil, only to produce the bike and to have your chain go well. it reduces the global footprint for the person. we all have our global foot print, what we use from this earth, and the footprint of the country and it alleviates global warming. what can be more sustaining except for walk something accessabilities? as mentioned before, we mentioned all the dutch people that are now on the bicycle in the car and who have a city that doesn't move anymore. it's congested for 24 hours. but there's more. the infrom structure use is more -- infrastructure use is more efficient. parking space is not so expensive when you park a car. you can park where you park a bike and you can park eight bicycles in the space of one car. when it comes to health, in-- it increases the life expectancy. you can live longer, three years longer when you cycle every day to work, to school, to shops when you use the bicycle more often and that longer

i am happy to be speaking for the vitality, livability, and diversity of the mission. i am proud to have lived in the mission for 15 years. i am a recent never on bartlett street. my house backs up to medjool. we're the closest neighbor. i love the mission because it is vibrant and perverse. i love that i live next to people of all ages, shapes, and sizes. i love that i can live without a car. i can buy it and take transit. i love the cultural opportunities. i love the businesses. i love the restaurants and bars. my partner and i moved from the permission into this corridor because we wanted more social life, and we eat out all the time and stay out life. what i do not like is what has been done to some of our neighbors on the street. it has driven away some of my neighbors in the building. there has been disrespectful and illegal activity, noise coming from the rooftop deck. even with the sound barrier that was added, i hear noise at night of music, of voices, of dishes, of a huge fan that goes 24/7 -- i am not sure why. i am one of the people that sleeps with earplug

this is an effort that is presented by the fda but the organization has done by livable city. we don't have a lot of resources. in the various places we visit -- this has provided much-needed support in terms of programming, outreach and marketing and other things we would have to go without or pay for. fillmore has been a great partner, and i don't know if you were able to make it out last weekend on september 11, but there was a lot of activity in all the neighborhoods, and most robustly in the film more and meghan mitchell worked very diligently to marshal fantastic music and great events, fun things for the whole family, helping with programming and marketing, letting the neighborhood know about changes to parking and traffic, and including sunday streets as part of the international artists week. in closing, this is an important institution and meghan worked very hard to support the merchants that bring life to this corridor. i really wanted to go on record by saying that sunday streets would not have been as successful without the staff. >> other members of the public? >
