. >> i am the executive director of livable city. perhaps more importantly, i was a member of the soma task force, code-share of the transportation working group. -- co-chair of the transportation working group. i am in support of this resolution. it is rare to see a groups say they are willing to seek unlimited density. western soma is increasing height limits along major streets from 50 feet to 65 feet. it is lifting density controls. this is a very pro-housing plan and a pro-transit plan. you also do not hear -- it is interesting that this was on the same agenda as booker t. washington. you do not hear a lot of neighborhood say they want to help fill affordable housing needs for the city. two-thirds of the housing we want to produce as a city in the next decade needs to be affordable. they want some of it. that is rare. this really is an extraordinary neighborhood. i am always happy to see neighborhoods asking for more density. the other thing that have asked for is that they stay a diverse community. there can be unlimited develo

what makes it's a more livable city. specifically what does that mean? we provide service to low-income families, to foster youth, to housing and homeless. we provide subsidized housing. we provide jobs for low-income residents. we have a summer youth employment program for the second year in a row where we will be employing 240 low-income youth. we provide general assistance, and of course we provide services to seniors and the disabled. our budget reduction target for this year was $18 million. the first half of that we achieved by basically belt-tightening and administrative efficiencies we could come up with. the second half was tougher. that really did eat into services. we're very grateful today that some of those services have already been restored, the nutrition services for seniors. our target is to preserve and protect the core services, food, jobs, income security, housing, and basic services to seniors and the disabled. denise, do you want to -- >> good afternoon. my name is denise chung. i'm with the office on the aging. we provide services

keeping streets clean, businesses, supporting small businesses, maintaining and making sure the city is livable for everyone. no one really looked to their neighbors. they stayed within their neighborhood, but did not reach beyond the boundaries. that is one thing i saw that i actually made a concerted effort on the campaign to build bridges. for me, that goes beyond the neighborhood. it goes to connecting the southeast to the large part of san francisco, wake up, we're out here. we want bike paths, dog parks, open space. we no longer want to have a neighborhood or a reputation of a crime-filled community. the other thing that i learned is really, we are all human. how to connect with that spirit, whether you're living in public housing, owning your own property, your asian, african american, we are all one. we are a community. when we realize and move in the direction of being a human's and having this human experience, connecting together, really be each other's keeper, then san francisco begins to drive. i also learned through the endorsement process -- you go through this process to get end
