last year in the middle of 2011, president chiu had worked for a livable city and other stakeholders planning code in numerous ways. it was about 345 pages and was related primarily to controls in the northeastern part of the city with some impact that were beyond the northeastern part of the city. i'm happy to report that over the course of the second part of 2011, we've actually had five or six hearings and through the diligent work of aaron starr and others who are here, we have worked to get the wheel the ordinands into its constituent parts. the we have three of those ordnances before you. there are for five more pending. if i could speak briefly to the specifics to each of these three ordnances, i will speak before -- the overall point of the ordinance i would say is twofold. it was to delete obsolete sections, fix redundancies, and clean up the code. and also furthered the widely held principles and policies in the general plan, such as the creation and encouragement of general -- of affordable housing, and sustainable activities like bicycling. and to get those things in line

this is the kind of mixed in calm development that makes san francisco the kind of livable city we can all take pride in. we need to move this project forward. thank you so much. >> good evening. i'm a board member -- we are encouraged that this project will bring new residents to our neighborhood. we are pleased that 50 units will be included as well as senior housing that will add great neighbors. we do appreciate the design adjustments. our association has been and continues to work on some serious crime and other issues in this specific area. most of our feedback has been around that. we are very interested in having more active use on the haight street side. we are not able to design the appropriate kind of the sod on that building. we have made an attempt to make a few changes to fit within those constraints. that includes more windows on the mid glut interest -- mid block entrance is quite important. it is a huge improvement to be able to make that connection. we do ask for additional work to be done with the developer. we do ask the condition be added that additional work be --

open space provides a greater good for the greater number of people and makes the city more livable. the soccer complex proposed provides benefit now for people that is advantageous to some, but the location in golden gate park will deprive the majority of city dwellers of the opportunity to experience this conjunction of park and beach without the overwhelming intrusion of man-made elements. we support youth soccer, but children need to learn to value location -- to value nature, and there is another location. in the 1950's, there with a plan to destroy part of golden gate park with the freeway. now at that point people rose up and said, do not touch our parks. this is the 21st century. we do not build freeways in parks, and we do not pave over prime park land. this is the heritage i am here to protect. this is about protecting the park for future generations. we respectfully request to overturn the planning department's approval of the application. it is

keeping streets clean, businesses, supporting small businesses, maintaining and making sure the city is livable for everyone. no one really looked to their neighbors. they stayed within their neighborhood, but did not reach beyond the boundaries. that is one thing i saw that i actually made a concerted effort on the campaign to build bridges. for me, that goes beyond the neighborhood. it goes to connecting the southeast to the large part of san francisco, wake up, we're out here. we want bike paths, dog parks, open space. we no longer want to have a neighborhood or a reputation of a crime-filled community. the other thing that i learned is really, we are all human. how to connect with that spirit, whether you're living in public housing, owning your own property, your asian, african american, we are all one. we are a community. when we realize and move in the direction of being a human's and having this human experience, connecting together, really be each other's keeper, then san francisco begins to drive. i also learned through the endorsement process -- you go through this process to get end
