let's take it live to bob redell live in tahoe, so this is more good news because we need the snow for our snowpack. it replenishes our water during the summer. what are you working with, bob? >> reporter: well, good morning to you. we're actually here in kingvale along 80. when you and i look at this we see a winter wonderland but when you talk to people in charge of the state's water supply, they see too little too late. yes, they want the snow but it's not enough. the department of water resources does not think that this later storm will have that much impact on the state's snowpack which normally supplies around a third of the water supply. with runoff through creeks like this one here. and streams and rivers and whatnot. they will get a better sense in a few hours when they conduct their third snow survey this winter season. taking place at 11:00 this morning. we'll be measuring the snowpack at echo summit south of tahoe. a month ago the snowpack was at roughly 29% of normal. they do not expect that number to improve greatly. yes, there will be change but again, they don't expect
