the city of livermore. this is the first time that they have had a start here. they are thrilled for the crowds and the tax revenue that comes with that. that's because amgen is the biggest race in the country. this is a starting stage four here later on today. as you mentioned one of the most scenic and brutal routes in california. it's a relatively short stage at 82 miles going along the mount diablo range from livermore to east san jose and it will end on the sierra road. the race has been through town but never a start. so the riders will start at the corner of l and 1st street, loop through downtown and the town of 81,000 people is shifting into higher gear here hoping to cash in on the event. joining me live now is vice mayor john marchand and you were saying that you're hoping to bring in probably $1.5 million to $2 million? this is a big deal for the city. >> this is a very big deal. $1.5 million to $2 million in one day bringing between 15 and 20,000 people into our historic downtown. this is big.

so it's very exciting to see livermore in an international stage. >> reporter: that's livermore's vice mayor you just heard from. moments ago we just spoke to him about how he feels about today's race. this is the run down of activities. at 10:00 the relay for life will have participants walking a quarter mile to the starting line. then riders arrive around 10:15 for spectators up and close personal moments. cyclists then head out around 11:00 ha this morning. and this is where they've already traveled from old town auburn through the central valley into downtown modesto. stage four in livermore will bring cyclists around downtown and then out of town via east avenue. they'll turn and then patterson pass before emerging on test let road for a final turn as they head 81 miles down south to silicon valley and san jose. livermore paid tens of the thousands to host this tour and the vice mayor says it's well worth it. >> economically it's worth between $1.5 and $2 million which considering we pull very minor investment of about $38,000 having a $2 million return is just quite a return on t

we have a live report from livermore. >>> good afternoon. we begin with new information on injured giants fan brian stowe. ktvu's kraig debro joins us live from sf general, where we just got an update on his condition. is it good news, craig? >> reporter: it generally is. but the overall feeling is that it's too early to tell. here at san francisco general hospital, we just got word less than an hour ago that brian stowe's trip from los angeles up here to san francisco caused new no problems. they were worried about that because sometimes in transit a medical patient's condition can change based on the movement of the body and in in case, the plane being so high in the air. but no new problems. in addition, we're also learning from the trauma specialist here that brian stowe more than a day after being taken off a medication that was being used to stop seizures, is now doing better. >> being off that seizure medication for 24 hours only on four seizure medications, he remains seizure-free. >> the medical staff is worried about seizures becau

we'll look at livermore. we've seen the speeds come up from the 50s but there's the report of the accident westbound 580 at north flynn road. that will cue an earlier slowdown. speeds right around 50 miles an hour coming out of the altamont pass. that should clear soon because there are no major issues and the tow truck has arrived on scene. for 580 at the toll plaza and the richmond bridge, another accident there. a car went across the entire roadway. from what i understand there are no injuries and it is off of the roadway but watch your drive toward that richmond-san rafael toll plaza. the rest of the approach to the maze moving smoothly. no problems at the bay bridge. we'll get you a live shot as you cross the water across the san mateo bridge. a nice flow westbound. eastbound coming back over to 880 a smooth flow as well. laura, you're not far from there. my kids love that place. they love the animals and they love you, so that's 8 great combination back to you. >> oh, no, and it's perfect. i would love

if you're in livermore, westbound 580, this is a concern. an accident still there on the shoulder westbound 580 at north flynn road. the reason that might help you out, if you're west of there, things are a little lighter so we do see the slowdown heading through central livermore into pleasanton but not quite as bad as we typically see because some folks held back some of the out of the altamont pass. 17-minute drive out towards the dublin interchange. 580 is smooth all the way over towards hayward. here of some of your approaches to the bay bridge toll plaza and a nice, smooth drive there as well. there's a disabled van on the upper deck. the chopper has scanned the entire route from the east bay and didn't see any major slowing so we trust that the bridge crew has taken care of that. the low clouds not an issue for your commute so the toll plaza is where our concern is right now. there's not a major backup and no metering lights registering yet. i'll get that final check with chp. yep, no metering lights so a smooth drive over across into
