live in livermore. alyssa goard, nbc, bay area news. thank you. alyssa. l's bring in chief meteorologist jeff ranieri. jeff, i know you've been telling us this is a multi-day event. let's break it down. what is the next 24 hours look like? well, we are eventually going to get in on some heavy rainfall once we hit this weekend. this is just kind of all getting going with that atmospheric river moving right here towards northern california. so all in all, it's just been enjoyable here to just get that rainfall and to actually see it. so okay, so santa rosa with 3800 napa 3200, concord 1400 and san jose with five hundredths of an inch. we'll take you to the radar. we do have some widespread coverage of rain, although it's light to moderate as we zoom in and get you a closer look. here you can see over the east bay. we're getting some downpours here, slowing it down on the commute tonight on five 8680. also on 880. we'll track some of this. we know this is a real busy corridor back here towards the east bay from hayward, all the way over to livermore. we're g

and we have livermore and we have livermore with not only ■35 but some fog there, 34 sonoma and temperaturesrop. that sun coming up at 706. so we'll get even colder by about 8:00 and 9:00 still in the 30s, and plenty of 40s right on through ten. and by about 11:00, maybe those 50s. so frost and freeze alerts this morning, throughout the weekend, we've got the cold mornings, the sunny afternoons and then the rain returning. the activity looks to be in southern california, the heaviest rain. we'll show that to you in just a moment. so notice that for much of the extreme northern california, not a whole lot here, but we go to the next seven days and we could see three quarters of an inch of additional rain in santa rosa. and notice the higher totals from san francisco to san jose. so this takes us out seven days. and then it's also a pretty cold air mass. we can count on some more mountain snow as well, but into the southland we could see anywhere from 4 to 6in of rain here, which could definitely bring some problems with some mudslides in the southern part of the state. so we'll keep you poste

nbc's velena jones reports from the livermore from the livermore valley. after a dry january, wine makers are embracing today's rain and hope more is on the way. i'm ecstatic. actually, we really need the rain. saturated soil and rainfall is exactly what mcgrail vineyards winemaker mark clarence says is needed. after very little rainfall in the livermore valley this winter, telling us it's key to ensuring a full bodied growing season. i'm hopeful that we're going to have a good, good growing season. it's a little early to tell because we're just barely into february, but a little bit of rainfall in december. january was very dry, february starting out very nicely. even with today's rain, clarence says their soil is still on the drier side, which could force them to turn on their irrigation systems. you know, if sonoma county and napa county are getting probably 3 to 5 times the amount of rainfall we get here, as long as the. this vineyard behind me doesn't start flowing down the hillside. we're good dowown the street at 20 vineyards. they're also embracing

temperatures have dropped to 46 degrees already in petaluma. 48 at fairfield, livermore 49. and we have low 50s at santa rosa, napa and concord. and this is our view looking across the embarcadero from the rooftop camera. these are the forecast headlines overnight. and tomorrow morning we have frost and freeze alerts in effect again. for the next two days we'll see clouds increasing a bit. just a few clouds tomorrow. more will arrive on tuesday, along with some late day or nighttime rainfall on tuesday. but the bigger rain comes in wednesday through friday, where we'll get heavier downpours and strong, gusty winds. but let's talk about the freeze alerts. the cold air alerts first freeze warning is in this area covered by the darker blue. so from the north bay inland valleys into the east bay valleys and down into the eastern santa clara hills, we'll see low temperatures dropping as low as 26 degrees overnight. the area under blue is where we have the frost advisory. that includes everything except san francisco and the coastline. in those areas, lows may drop as low as 32 de
