and -- liz: cheryl? >> member spending up 6%. liz: there you go, you just got to it. the card member spending up 6%. by the way that was globally. i'm just wondering if that is a disappointment too? >> card member spending for them, certainly as you see the economy pick up one thing with american express we really wanted to see, 60% of the revenues coming of course as you know, liz, from the transaction costs at the card company, those transaction fees for merchants. if you see more spending for the company that's a good thing. at the same time they did announce that share buyback last month. that is something else we were looking at. watching the stock move and it is just down a little bit but, yes, globally card member spending up 6%. i think that is a positive. again the stock is only down 1% right now. so we're seeing a little bit of movement on amex. rich: let's go to todd right now. todd, what kind of reaction are you getting in the pits from this. >> right now we're kind of hanging near the highs but when you overleak and look at american express, this is again

liz: okay.o this your lower third part of the screen, in the right part, you can see that we are cycling through all the major indices and their lows of the session. you can see where the flashing dot is. that, of course, we're now off the lows of the session, but we did break through some serious support levels. let's get to mark newton at gray wolf on the floor of the new york stock exchange with lizanne and charlie and joling in the conversation. mark, which one sent off real signals, and are these trip wires from big institutions who had self-loss signals? >> well, look, price is finally starting to confirm, i think, what momentum's been saying over the last 12 months. the s&p attempted to bounce along with everything else yesterday, and a lot of people thought that was short covering. we're right back down, we broke 831 on the futures -- 1831 on the futures. the it is a short-term negative. we're starting to see volume expand. the breadth is now about 90 president into declining versus adva

i am liz claman. breaking news, stocks attempting very hard to make that come back entering the last hour of trade. the nasdaq, as i mentioned, at the breakeven point. earlier in the session it was at lowe's dangerously close to correction territory. the 3022 is the number to watch. but now we are well above that back above 4000, but nonetheless by a point in the half above the flatline. look at the russell 2000 at 1116.26, just i erasing more thn 1% loss. the dow and s&p turning positive about one hour ago, but that would have been the second or third time because this morning we have the major averages opening higher and then reversing hitting session those earlier after new violence in eastern ukraine. ukrainian forces are looking at an airplane over my shoulder launching what they call a special operation against pro-russia gunman including an aerial show with the fighter jet. gunfire at a military airport. ukraine later saying it has recaptured the airfield but it wasn't exactly the friendliest w

i am liz claman. the last hour of trading and just moments ago we had the highs of the session, pulled back a bit but you can call it the bad effects, market session highs after the federal reserve announced it will continue the gentle pace of tapering bond buying purchases but the fed reiterated no rate hikes coming for a long long time. dow jones industrials in positive territory for 2014 and on track for a record closing high after the federal reserve latest move to scale back its stimulus. the fed did cut monthly bond buying by another $10 billion now to $45 billion a month. that is exactly what the market expected. federal reserve saying the economy picked up recently since the winter weather and the slowdown. take a look at the latest market reaction, dow jones industrials up 44 points. a few minutes ago during melissa's show it jumped 57 points, the high of the day. right now it is above, this is the number to watch, 16,576. you can see 16,581, it stays above 576, it will be a new record close.

liz: that's not good. >> it's not particularly good. liz: why?e measuring financial health, how well a company's efficiently run, and in almost every respect -- certainly compared to a lot of the other social media companies that have come out with ipos -- liz: in fact, since you've been covering it, it's never gotten than, what, about a 17? >> that's right. and i think for the last couple of years it has certainly, you know, puttered along. it's continuing to have more potential than it is reality. it's an unprofitable business, relatively immature, and everything that tom's saying and the market is saying is really that we have to see user growth over time and see them be able to monetize those users -- liz: but, tom, it's a verb now. i tweeted. all you hear about is people tweeting. the ellen selfie at the academy awards got so much play. there isn't really anything better on the heels of twitter. so do you agree -- there it is, there's that famous tweet. do you agree with what james is saying that it's not keeping up when it comes to potentia

liz: good afternoon, everybody. i am liz claman. it is the last hour of trading and it could be one again for the record books. and he moved to the upside, even a fraction of a point in the s&p 500 would push it once again higher into uncharted record territory. gaining 3.37 or a fraction of a percent, but either way adding g toward the eighth record day. up 24 points, it is just within give or take 30 points of its record close. that level would make the dow break even for the year. today's gains helped by new optimism about the jobs market. we got the data earlier this morning. adp says customers created 191,000 jobs in march, just shy of expectations, but february numbers revised sharply higher from what had been a disappointing gain of 139,000 jobs revised up to 178,000. the numbers are raising hopes for the labor department march jobs report due out on friday. be watching that very closely, but another sign of an economic fall, factory orders jumped 1.6% for the month of february. now we have wall street grappling with new fall
