back to you guys. >>> we thank you liz. 5:04. new this morning growing concerns about safety on the new eastern span of the bay bridge. lisa chan joins us live to explain the potential damage to the base of that bridge's tower. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. well, it's been one week since one of the anchor rods failed a key test. now an investigation will be done to determine what is wrong with it and just how big the problem is. as much as $4 million in toll payers' money will be spent to study problems on the bay bridge's eastern span tower. last week the tower rod moved easily when it was tugged on which may mean it corroded from exposure to water and fractures. significant levels of corrosive chloride were found in the steel rods at the base of to tower. >> as if the saltwater got in there during construction just like some of the fresh water did. we have to find that amount of stuff and we can eventually suction it out and dry it out if get back to where we want to be. -- and -- and get wac to where we want. -- bac
