liz: okay.et to tariffs because we're going to get this announcement in what we believe begins in about 19 minutes. apple does a lot of business in asia, they manufacture much of their phone, you know, parts come from everywhere; germany, australia, switzerland. but they manufacture them in china. tim cook had said our view on tariffs is that they show up as a tax on the consumer and wind up resulting in lower economic growth. that is what he said on tariffs. and i'm sure you agree, but how would it affect them? the president has a man crush on apple, and maybe he gives them a waiver on this? >> well, we'll have to see what comes out, clearly, but i think what's going on if there were to be tariffs imposed, it would raise the price of the products and ultimately would hit demand. so that's on the revenue piece. and, of course, as you noted, there's the supply chain. and so a lot of the products are manufactured in china. and so there could be complications resulting from that as well. and so i t

liz: very funny.about anybody with any kind of apple device of any kind. that's what they do. now then, for a couple years the big story we've been covering is a big tech dominates the stock market, dominates the economy. is there any stopping it from here on out? >> i think these companies -- it's funny, is facebook a tech company? is amazon the retail business a tech company? so if you talk to traditional value investors they are like go look every 10 years at historical market caps. i look at 1980. none of those top 10 tech companies are around anymore. would i argue they were basic hardware businesses. facebook is media company, a distribution company. a lot of accounts they don't have to pay for. amazon is a retailer. it is funny, amazon may eventually be disrupted but something we can't comprehend. think about sears roebuck, sears. it was a business. it was mail-order. you had lots of different, you didn't have to go to the local store. you had lots of different options. amazon was sears online.

so, liz, i want to start with you. when you see all of these charges and the case presented by the government, what's your first takeaway. >> well, i was a former member of the u.s. house of representatives, so for me it's a very sad commentary to see somebody who ought to know better being charged in this case of a cut and dried case with insider trading, violating the federal law. he shouldn't have been in this kind of position, he shouldn't be breaking the law and it's very, very sad. that's my first reaction because it casts aspersions on all public servants. >> barbara, i want to ask you, and maybe perhaps we're still trying to see exactly how president trump is going to handle this, seeing as congressman collins was his first sitting member of congress to support his campaign. but this is a situation where the president if he wanted to and chris collins were convicted, he could in theory pardon him, no? >> well, yes, the president has the power to pardon anyone he wants to. he has used that pardon power we've see
