ann: very difficult to rebuild a political party. look at the polling numbers we have seen during the weeks of liz truss's premiership that only lasted4 days. she becomes the shortest serving prime minister in u.k. history. now, the second leadership race in just three months. to rebuild confidence is going to be difficult. we know conservatives are 39 points behind the labour party when it comes to polling. that would mean, if they went to a general election, they could be wiped out of first position. i got a snap poll today from patrick english of yougov, and it says 63% of the population now want a general election so they can choose a government with a mandate. however, we are not in that position, two years away potentially still from a general election if you look at the rules of government. we are now caught in a leadership race again. we have runners and riders in front, rishi sunak and penny mordant and we could see a return of former prime minister boris johnson. rishaad: if all political careers end in failure, it would be something if as johnson did return. who is the favorite? leigh-ann: there are many different poles go

but liz truss and some of the other hopefuls from the conservative party have been experimenting with a form of kind of libertarian nationalism somebody described it as ann blew up. this isn't the market environment or the economic environment to go for huge unfunded tax cuts believe it or not, nobody was asking for a change to the top tier of tax cuts. some of the other hopefuls who were aligned with liz truss have been maintaining a hard line on immigration and trying to introduce some of the so-called culture wars, tropes that continue to resonate in the u.s. just a lot less evocative here. keep calm and carry on speaks for a lot of people who are exhausted from the revolving door but i think, again, what my clients, investors and business leaders want to see is the wing of the conservative party which is similar to the kind of old school republicans which is economic stewardship and frankly maintaining a steady ship. no big changes in policy, that sort of thing. the one nation establishment torys. but we all are contending with the desire to shake up the establishment. the other thing by the way that i think republicans can learn is about the challen
