so much of what liz cheney has communicated about kevin mccarthy's importance as a witness. and list cheney has gone so far as to say he should be subpoenaed, if he doesn't testify it is about those communications that took place while the insurrection was under way, while the chance to hang mike pence was still happening, while people like chris christie were on live tv calling for trump to tell his people to go home. while we now know from reporting donald trump was cheering like a sporting event and forced to record multiple videos ultimately to force all of his people to go home, but reminding them he loved them. talk about her. talk about that testimony and tell me about the other nine who make up these nine republicans on the board now as voting to hold steve bannon in contempt. jamie herrera is one of the -- house leaders decided to not -- this vote is a vote of conscience. basically, you can decide where you are at on this issue. jamie has been a focal point. maybe not quite as out there as liz cheney and adam kinzinger. not on the january 6th committee but certainly

philadelphia or the wayne county canvassing board in michigan, there are a number of individuals, liz cheney, adam kinzinger, who stood up and did the right thing. but you have different people in those jobs or weaker people in those jobs and you do have an election successfully overturned and that is what donald trump tried to do as his own justice department officials told durbin's committee. >> you mentioned grassley and the idea that he was a man of integrity and perhaps when you see him now you don't have that same impression. it is a theme, though, jake, we have seen with a number of republicans and there is this line right now that we keep hearing from a number of them, including mike pence, that, you know, what is with this focus on january 6th? it is just, you know, critics of president trump sort of overblowing one day. what is the effect of that?

nine republicans including liz cheney joining all the democrats in the house to refer steve bannon to the justice department for prosecution over his refusal to obey a subpoena from the january 6 investigation. now, as to whether or not the justice department is actually going to put him on trial, we really don't know. the dc u.s. attorney could decide not to. the d.c. u.s. attorney could convene a grand jury, present evidence to the grand jury and let the grand jury decide whether or not an indictment against mr. bannon is warranted. one other option, i believe, don't hold me to this if this doesn't turn out to be the case, but i believe, based on my understanding of how these things work, based on the type of charge this would theoretically be against mr. f bannon, i believe that the d.c. u.s. attorney also has the option to just draw up the without going to a grand jury at all, which is yet another way to approach this. regardless of how the u.s. attorney's office decides to handle this, though, we really won't know anything about that process until it's done, until a charge is bro

house committee's secretary chairman bennie thompson led the floor debate along with his co-chair, liz cheney. cheney called out her republican colleagues and specifically kevin mccarthy during her remarks. >> my colleagues in the republican party, the republican members of this body, have to understand, have to recognize that there's a moment when politics must stop if we want to defend and protect our institutions. a violent assault on the capitol to stop a constitutional process

those comments from liz cheney were direct, to put it mildly, that assessment.ehind that. i don't know if it's a motivation, but what do you think steve bannon is taking from that based on your experience? >> based on discussions i've had with him over the last couple of months, i don't think steve bannon is particularly bothered by those comments from liz cheney or anybody in the committee. he doesn't recognize its validity. he doesn't feel as though he's in a situation to be pressured by them, unlike a typical ex-white house official, bannon doesn't have a high-profile corporate job, doesn't serve on boards of directors. he sees this as part of a political fight and believes the contempt charge is only going to enhance his standing in the eyes of trump and trump supporters. that's what bannon is most interested in doing. >> well, he can think that way just fine, and we saw, by the way, he didn't seem to have much respect for the electoral system based on his statements. looking at cheney, this doesn't come from nowhere. i want to play what steve bannon said ja
