. ♪ ♪ liz: good afternoon, everybody, i'm liz claman. what a difference a week makes.iday, totally different picture than what we have today. the dow and the s&p were headed toward new record closes a week ago. they also reached them. those indices have struggled to reach new highs. it's not the worst thing in the world, but in fact right now the nasdaq is on track for a winning week. it's the only major index that's doing so, six of the last seven. both the nasdaq and the russell, though, are moving higher right now. the dow and the s&p and the transports and the russell are all looking at their second losing week out of three. we need you to pay attention to the volume of the russell indices as we approach the close. we're having the rebalancing, remember, the russell is pretty much the benchmark for some 5.2 trillion in assets, small and mid caps. today's move, though, actually helped. it's not the worst picture in the world. we got better-than-expected june consumer sentiment numbers, but many investors still trying to get past this week's weaker economic data incl

good afternoon, everybody, i'm liz claman.d biotech happen to be the standout performers on a day where every index was higher, and now nearly all of them lower. while the blue chips are struggling to advance, it's the nasdaq that's the only major average in the green, just barely, up by four points at the moment. earlier, though, it did hit a new 14-year high. we're also waiting to see what happens with the s&p. if it posts any kind of gain, that's the 23rd record for the s&p. out front is vertech pharmaceuticals, jumping a full 40% after reporting success with a cystic fibrosis treatment. not far behind, micron technology, mu. that's gaining nearly 5%. they came out with quarterly estimates and numbers yesterday. they topped quarterly targets and forecast, better than expected sales thanks to pent-up demand for pcs. a backlog in demand also a factor in the housing market. we got new home sales soaring 18.6% in may. that's actually thest level in six years. a separate report showed that home prices rose again in april but at

. ♪ ♪ liz: good afternoon, everybody, i'm liz claman.the last hour of trading, we just got breaking news about amazon in the past 30 be minutes. reuters is reporting that amazon will launch a local services marketplace this year to take on yelp and angie's list. amazon's stock was one of the s&p 500's biggest winners even before that news, jumping up about 1.5% right now. it's yelp that's getting hit and angie's list more so, down about 2.25% or 26 cents, yelp lower by nearly a percent. in the broader markets so far, not enough buying conviction to keep up the record run for stocks today, but that could all change before the close, that's why you have to watch us. dow jones industrials moving lower by 14 points, earlier today it was down 46, so we've come back quite a bit. we have the transports lower as well by 24 points. they did close as new records yesterday, all three major indices down along with the russell and the nasdaq. we've got the russell when it comes to volume, by the way, 13% below our three month averages, the nyse volum
