liz kendall is the shadow social care minister.hey are horrific, the figures and ca re they are horrific, the figures and care homes. it shows that social ca re care homes. it shows that social care staff are absolutely right on the front line and i think it indicates that more needs to be done to tackle the spread of the virus, protect care home users and staff and bring the death rates down. we are not at the peak yet in social ca re are not at the peak yet in social care and we have over 430 thousand —— over 430,000. the staff will look after them and the families miss them terribly. there was a clearly a lack and focus on care homes, but now over the last couple of weeks there has been particularly on the issues you raised about ppe and testing. the government has expanded testing. the government has expanded testing to include care homes and in fa ct testing to include care homes and in fact all key workers. anecdotally speaking to those working in care homes, it seems that ppe is improving, albeit it is still a problem. are y

well we're joined now by the labour party's shadow social care minister liz kendall.. we have more than 400,000 elderly and disabled people in nursing and residential ca re people in nursing and residential care and families want to know that everything possible is being done to protect their loved ones. we have seen protect their loved ones. we have seen from the 0ns today a huge increase in the number of people who have died from covid—19 in care homes but we know that if you looked at the up—to—date figures, that would likely be much, much bigger so i think it is really important that the government collects and publishes the daily death figures outside of hospital, including in ca re outside of hospital, including in care homes because if you want to deal with the problem, you have to know how big it is, where it is and how fast it is spreading and if we only have these 0ns stats then there isa only have these 0ns stats then there is a huge timeline and that is not good enough. it is hard to categorically say though, isn't it, that someone has died of covid—19 if
